Overview The City is seeking a versatile Utility Clerk / Administrative Assistant to manage our water and sewer billing system for approximately 1,200 accounts and support daily municipal operations. As the frontline representative for City Hall, you will greet visitors, answer community inquiries, and shape the public's daily experience with local government. You will handle utility accounts while providing cross-functional administrative support for various city services. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, transitions smoothly between unrelated tasks, and maintains a professional, helpful attitude with the public. Responsibilities Establish and set up new customer utility accounts with accurate names, addresses, and details. Manage the monthly billing cycle for 1,200 water and sewer accounts. Process utility payments, deposits, meter readings, and penalty assessments. Use ClerkBooks to record municipal financial transactions and reconcile daily receipts. Manage delinquent accounts, set up payment plans, and coordinate service shut offs or restorations. General Municipal Support & Customer Service Serve as the primary point of contact for residents visiting or calling City Hall. Answer utility billing questions and resolve citizen disputes professionally. Assist the public with general municipal processes, including building permits, business licenses, and animal registrations. Intake citizen complaints regarding streets, code enforcement, or other general concerns and route them to the correct department. Office Administration Maintain organized physical and digital filing systems for utility accounts and general city records. Assist the City Clerk with preparing meeting agendas, public notices, or routine financial reports. Multi-task effectively between data entry, phone calls, and walk-in citizens. Experience High school diploma or equivalent. Proven experience in customer service, office administration, or municipal government. Exceptional multitasking skills with the ability to handle frequent public interruptions. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Proficiency in ClerkBooks (or similar QuickBooks-style municipal accounting software) and standard office programs (Word, Excel). High level of patience and conflict-resolution skills when dealing with the public. Prior experience with municipal utility billing and local government operations is highly preferred, though not required.
Pay:
$18.00 - $21.00 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 per week
