QUALIFICATIONS
1) High school diploma or equivalent; 2) Demonstrated skills in the secretarial field; 3) Working knowledge of basic office procedures and the operation of common office equipment and machines; 4) Demonstrated basic and applied computer skills; 5) Completion of First Aid and CPR courses, as provided by the District; 6) Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the School Committee may find appropriate and acceptable.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
1) Speaks a second language pertinent to District needs; 2) Able to take shorthand and transcribe various types of dictation; 3) Two years of post-secondary training in a related field; 4) Five years job experience as a secretary.
JOB GOAL
To assure the smooth and efficient operation of the school office so that the maximum positive impact on the education of children can be realized.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
1) Performs the usual office routines and practices associated with a productive and smoothly-run office; 2)Demonstrates effective interpersonal skills; 3) Receives and routes all incoming calls and messages; 4) Communicates effectively through verbal, non-verbal and written expression; 5) Maintains student records as shall be required, including computer records; 6) Maintains confidentiality concerning parents, students, personnel and other school related matters, including all mail and other communications; 7) Prepares attendance reports for the Superintendent's Office when required to do so; 8) Maintains all school records such as inventories of books, equipment, supplies, visitor logs; 9) If necessary, administers first aid; 10) Interprets or facilitates communication with parents; 11) Prepares and/or assists in preparation of purchase orders, requisitions and schedules; 12) Prepares and/or assists in the preparation of all local, State and Federal reports or surveys; 13) Prepares and maintains account budgets; 14) Duplicates and distributes materials, as required; 15) Opens and distributes mail and other communications; 16) Prepares and maintains transportation lists, when necessary; 17) Performs any other duties as assigned by the Supervisor or designee.
