Full-time Typist II, Middle School Main Office Hours:
7.5 per day, 12-month appointment
Typical Duties:
Greets and assists students, parents, and visitors Answers and directs phone calls. Provides clerical support to the school's main office staff. Composes letters, memos, reports, and other documents. Uses word processing packages, spreadsheets and database programs to perform the more difficult and complex clerical processing and maintenance activities such as reports and other related documents. Maintains attendance, personnel, and payroll records; Prepares requisitions; receives and distributes supplies; keeps perpetual inventory and consumption records. Maintains office files and records. Performs data entry and other clerical tasks using a computer. Handles mail and other correspondence.
Job Qualifications Civil Service Requirements:
The position is a New York State Civil Service job under the
HELPS PROGRAM.
No civil service exam is required at this time. To be considered, you will need to meet the minimum qualifications, which include graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma.
Qualifications Open Competitive:
Two (2) years of office experience, or its part-time equivalent, which must have included typing and clerical work as a primary function of the job; or , An Associate's degree in Business or Administrative Assistant, or a closely related field, which must have included coursework in typing, keyboarding and/or word processing.
Promotion:
One (1) year of permanent competitive class status as a Typist I, Typist I (Spanish Speaking), Stenographer I or Data Entry Equipment Operator. A background check and fingerprinting are required for all school district employees who have direct contact with students, as mandated by New York State law.
