The Mendocino Woodlands State Park is located nine miles east of the coastal village of Mendocino in Northern California. The 720-acre site is located in a mature redwood forest with a fresh water stream, beaver pond, sunny meadows and 25 miles of hiking trails.
Program:
Conservation ethics are interwoven into lessons, meal times and evening programs. Activities include exploration of forest, stream, pond, and marine ecosystems. Also emphasized are communication skills, group challenges, and peer relations. Special attention is given to helping students examine the connection between the choices and actions they make each day and the affect of those choices on the planet as a whole. Evening programs feature night hikes, folkdance, and campfires. Program operates during Spring, late March to early June. Paid staff training.
Teacher/Naturalist:
Applicants should possess a strong background in the natural sciences and experience working with children. We are looking for enthusiastic, creative people who want to share their love for and knowledge of the planet with young people. Must be willing to work long hours and cooperate as part of a group. Preference will be given to those with experience in residential programming and/or degrees in science, education, and recreation. First aid training a plus!
