Wednesdays 1:30 PM - 7 PM (during Daylight Saving Time only) & Saturdays 8:30 AM - 2:30 PM year-round

$18-20/hour About City Farm SLO City Farm SLO (CFS) is a non-profit organization whose mission is to empower the next generation to live healthier, more prosperous lives through sustainable agriculture and farm-based education. We work toward this mission by educating SLO County youth with farm-based programming, enabling small farmers in sustainable crop production, modeling innovative agricultural practices, and engaging a diverse community of people. Our Pay-What-You-Can Farm Stand is an important part of that mission. The Farm Stand provides fresh, locally grown food to our community while allowing customers to pay what they can afford while providing a meaningful sales outlet to small-scale farmers. Primary Responsibilities Farm Stand Operations Independently open, set up, operate, and close the Farm Stand Create attractive, abundant, and well-organized displays of produce and other products Process purchases accurately using City Farm's point-of-sale system Handle cash and electronic payments responsibly Weigh, price, stock, rotate, and display produce Monitor inventory and restock throughout each shift Complete sales, inventory, and other required tracking accurately and consistently Pitch in on other Farm Stand and light farm tasks during slower periods Food Access & Community Engagement Help create a Farm Stand environment where everyone feels welcome and comfortable shopping Clearly and respectfully explain City Farm's Pay-What-You-Can model to new customers Help ensure the Pay-What-You-Can model is implemented consistently and with dignity Answer questions about available produce, products, and the farm Build positive relationships with regular customers and community members Serve as a friendly and knowledgeable representative of City Farm SLO, sharing basic information about City Farm's mission, programs, events, and ways to get involved Communicate customer feedback, questions, or concerns to the City Farm team The ideal candidate is: Passionate about food access and excited by City Farm's Pay-What-You-Can approach Highly dependable and punctual. Hardworking and proactive, willing to jump in wherever needed Detail-oriented with an eye for attractive displays, accurate transactions, inventory, cleanliness, and organization Comfortable working independently and making good decisions Organized and able to follow established systems and procedures Comfortable handling cash and learning point-of-sale technology Comfortable working outdoors and in a hands-on farm environment Able to regularly lift and carry up to 40 pounds Previous retail, farmers market, farm stand, food service, agriculture, or customer service experience is helpful but not required.
