POSITION OVERVIEW
Alden Laurel is seeking a skilled and reliable Plant Installation Technician to join our team in delivering residential landscape projects to the highest standard of horticultural craftsmanship and care. This is a hands-on field role. You will work as part of a crew under the direction of crew leadership and management, executing the installation of trees, shrubs, perennials, and mulch with precision and pride. You bring experience in planting, installation or horticulture, a strong work ethic, and an eye for detail. You understand that proper plant placement, soil preparation, and careful handling of live material are what separate good plantings from great ones, and that the finished work carries the reputation of everyone who built it. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Field Execution & Teamwork Perform daily plant installation tasks on residential job sites under the direction of the Director of Design/Build and crew leadership Maintain clear communication with crew leadership on task progress, plant health, site conditions, and any issues that arise Assist with unloading, staging, and layout of materials, including trees, shrubs, perennials, mulch, and soil amendments using equipment and manual methods Maintain the highest standards of timeliness, cleanliness, and organization of tools, trucks, and safety standards on project sites Work efficiently and safely as part of a crew, following the direction and pace set by crew leadership Support the onboarding of new crew members by modeling Alden Laurel's standards of quality and care Plant Installation & Craftsmanship Assist in all phases of plant installation, including bed preparation, soil amendment, and layout of plant material Install trees, shrubs, and perennials to proper depth, spacing, and orientation in accordance with design plans and horticultural best practices Apply mulch to proper depth and coverage, ensuring clean bed edges and consistent finished appearance Review design plans on site with crew leadership and management, flagging discrepancies or plant substitutions before proceeding Uphold plant health and design intent on every project, ensuring finished work reflects the design and meets Alden Laurel's quality standards Properly water-in, stake, and care for plantings on site Site Operations & Logistics Support daily site setup, organization, and close-out of planting projects, including material staging, tool accountability, and site cleanliness Assist with coordinating delivery of trees, shrubs, perennials, mulch, and soil materials as directed by crew leadership and management Operate and perform basic maintenance checks on equipment, hand tools, power tools, and small equipment; report mechanical issues promptly Assist with debris disposal, material handling, and organization of the yard and storage areas as needed Site Stewardship & Safety Follow proper safety procedures when operating equipment, handling plant material, and working near utilities Protect existing hardscape, irrigation, and site features during plant installation Assist with temporary erosion control, drainage, and site protection measures as directed Support proper handling, watering, and storage of live plant material to minimize plant loss and site impact
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Hands-on experience in landscape installation, horticulture, or landscape maintenance, with working knowledge of planting trees, shrubs, and perennials Understanding of soil preparation, planting depth, spacing, and mulching fundamentals for healthy plant establishment Ability to follow direction, work efficiently as part of a team, and maintain quality and attention to detail under the guidance of crew leadership and management Comfort operating hand tools and equipment safely and correctly Valid driver's license with a clean driving record Physical ability to perform demanding outdoor work, including lifting heavy materials, across a full New England season Preferred 3+ years of professional experience in residential plant installation Experience with tree and shrub planting, perennial bed installation, and efficient mulching techniques Familiarity with reading design plans and plant layout markers in the field Knowledge of basic horticultural concepts: plant selection, soil health, and seasonal planting windows Experience operating equipment (Dingo, Skid Steer, Mini-Ex) with Hoisters License OSHA 10 certification, or willingness to obtain (reimbursed by Alden Laurel)
