Flower Farm Assistant Blazing Star Flowers Alexander, NC Job Details Part-time $18 an hour 6 hours ago Qualifications Outdoor work experience Full Job Description An energetic, responsible, and hard-working team member who will accomplish time sensitive tasks on our production-focused flower farm. Be part of a small but mighty team to grow beautiful flowers organically to bring joy our local community through markets, CSA, workshops, and special event flowers. 2026 is an exciting year for us as we transition to our new farm! We will be establishing our new farm site less than a mile down the road from our leased land at 228 Mag Sluder Rd, Alexander, NC 28701. We will have our regular production of flowers on leased land while the new site is being developed. Work will take place on both properties. The heart of the job is field work on Friday and Saturday mornings. There are also opportunities to help with the Farmers Market, CSA prep/deliveries, harvesting, and wedding flower delivery/set up. In the application you can select which of these add-on shifts you are interested in. This position is seasonal and part-time in nature through mid-December. It is important that you are available the whole season. Transplanting and planting crops Weeding quickly and efficiently Pounding in stakes and trellising flower crops Washing flower buckets Fertilizing and spraying crops with organic inputs, may be done with watering can or battery powered backpack sprayer, applicable protective gear provided. Performing general maintenance duties such as mowing/ weed whacking, applicable protective gear provided.
Watering:
greenhouse seedlings, field transplants, and crops using a hose and/or drip irrigation
Greenhouse:
potting up, opening/closing vents as needed Assisting with end of season farm tasks, such as managing weed fabric, trellising, and crop residues from beds. Digging and washing dahlia tubers. Transplanting perennials & shrubs from the old farm to the new farm. Handling all flowers with care to prevent damage and maximize bloom quality Performing safe and responsible use of all tools and equipment, as demonstrated. Assisting with occasional weekend events, which may include packaging, loading, setting up, delivery, Occasional flower harvesting and processing to be done efficiently and accurately Training is available for these tasks with the expectation that they can then be performed independently. Farming or horticultural experience is appreciated but not required. Must be punctual and reliable, we start right on time. Must be able and willing to regularly lift 50 lbs, as well as working in standing, bending, kneeling, and squatting positions. We don't work on the ground from a sitting position. Must be able and willing to hustle and work in a focused, efficient manner Must request schedule changes in advance before finalizing plans Must be able and willing to work in all types of weather outdoors Must have access to reliable transportation (the farm is not easily accessible by public transportation) Must possess effective and positive communication skills Must be goal-oriented and self-motivated when working independently and with others Must follow all general rules related to working on the SAHC Community Farm.
