Overview Private family horse farm in the Harveys Lake area is hiring a dependable, hardworking person to complete morning barn chores approximately 15-20 hours per week. This is a hands-on, physically demanding position involving the morning care of seven horses and ponies. We need someone responsible, efficient, comfortable working independently and experienced handling horses.
Responsibilities include:
Feeding and turning out horses and ponies Cleaning approximately seven stalls and turnout areas Filling hay feeders and placing hay in stalls Preparing evening feed Filling and cleaning water buckets and troughs Emptying manure buckets and operating a utility vehicle Sweeping, raking and keeping the barn orderly Watching for injuries, illness or unusual behavior Completing occasional additional barn tasks as needed
Qualifications:
Practical horse-handling experience strongly preferred Reliable transportation and consistent attendance required Ability to work independently and follow an established routine Ability to lift and carry 50-pound feed bags, hay bales and water buckets Willingness to work in heat, cold, rain and snow Honest, attentive and responsive References required The morning routine generally takes approximately 2-3 hours once learned. Applicants must be available for a consistent morning schedule, including some weekends and holidays. Exact days may be arranged, but preference will be given to someone who can commit to the same regular days each week.
Compensation:
$50 per completed morning shift for the current seven-horse routine, with additional compensation for approved extra work. Additional paid property work - including mowing, weed trimming, landscaping, fence maintenance, tractor work and general farm upkeep - may be available for someone with appropriate experience.
