Full Job Description Benefits Medical Insurance Dental Insurance Vision Insurance Paid Time Off (PTO) Employee Discount Opportunities for Advancement About Us Dottie's Greenhouse & Nursery is one of the area's premier independent garden centers, offering annuals, perennials, trees, shrubs, houseplants, vegetables, and seasonal plant material. We are seeking an experienced Horticuture Specialist to lead the health and maintenance of our greenhouse inventory and landscaped grounds while helping supervise daily plant care operations. This is not a seasonal position . We are looking for a dedicated horticulture professional to join our team year-round. Position Summary The Horticulture Specialist is responsible for maintaining the overall health, quality, and appearance of greenhouse and nursery inventory, directing daily plant care activities, identifying and treating plant diseases and pests, and maintaining all landscaped flower beds throughout the Dottie's Family Market complex. Essential Responsibilities Monitor plant health and quality throughout the greenhouse and nursery. Diagnose and identify insects, diseases, nutrient deficiencies, and environmental stress. Develop and implement effective Integrated Pest Management (IPM) programs. Apply fertilizers, pesticides, fungicides, and other treatments safely and in accordance with regulations. Develop watering schedules and direct staff on proper watering techniques. Train employees on proper plant care, pruning, deadheading, fertilization, and general maintenance. Maintain hanging baskets, annuals, perennials, shrubs, trees, vegetables, and tropical plants. Design and maintain flower beds, landscape displays, and seasonal plantings throughout the property. Monitor greenhouse environmental conditions including irrigation, ventilation, humidity, and temperature. Maintain plant treatment records and recommend improvements to growing practices. Assist customers with plant selection and provide professional plant care advice. Work closely with greenhouse management to maintain exceptional plant quality and presentation. QualificationsRequired Minimum 2 years of experience in greenhouse operations, horticulture, nursery management, landscaping, or a related field. Strong knowledge of annuals, perennials, trees, shrubs, vegetables, tropical plants, and houseplants. Ability to identify common plant diseases, insects, fungal issues, and nutrient deficiencies. Experience with plant watering, fertilization, pruning, and general horticultural maintenance. Strong leadership and communication skills. Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple tasks. Preferred Degree or certification in Horticulture, Plant Science, Agriculture, or Landscape Management Experience with greenhouse environmental controls and irrigation systems Physical Requirements Lift up to 50 pounds regularly. Stand and walk for extended periods. Bend, kneel, climb ladders, and perform repetitive physical tasks. Work indoors and outdoors throughout the year. Work Environment This is a full-time, year-round outdoor and greenhouse position .
