Located in Trinity, Texas, Whispering Pines Golf Club® is approximately 88 miles north of Houston situated on a spectacular 400-acre property featuring piney woods, creeks, lakes, natural dunes and abundant wildlife. The golf experience at Whispering Pines Golf Club® is truly memorable. The club is open on a seasonal basis. In season, the club operates Tuesday through Sunday, which provides every guest with the best possible guest service and course conditions. JOB SUMMARY
Under the general supervision of the Director of Agronomy, the Horticulturalist Superintendent is responsible for directing and participating in the daily maintenance of the clubhouse, cottages, owners' homes and common areas. This position is responsible for the day-to-day fertilizer and chemical programs/applications as well as assigning and directing all Landscaping employees.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead and oversee all landscape, horticultural, irrigation, and maintenance operations for the club and owners' homes. Develop annual and seasonal horticultural plans, including flower rotations, plant pruning, plant selection, enhancement projects, and long-range landscape strategies. Establish service standards, operational procedures, and quality benchmarks to ensure consistent presentation across all grounds. Manage annual Operating and Capital budgets, including forecasting, resource planning, and cost control. Plan, prioritize, and execute daily maintenance activities, installations, renovations, and infrastructure improvements. Oversee mowing, bed maintenance, planting, irrigation troubleshooting and repair, pest and disease management, fertilization, and pesticide applications. Maintain accurate documentation, operational activities, chemical applications, and maintenance records. Inspect landscaped areas, facilities, equipment, and irrigation systems to identify issues and implement corrective actions.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Strong leadership, team-building, and interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate and direct staff. Excellent oral and written communication skills with competency in professional correspondence. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently. Ability to perform effectively under pressure, set priorities, and adapt to changing conditions. High work ethic and a strong sense of responsibility. Advanced problem-solving skills, particularly in plant health, irrigation, and landscape project management.
