Part-time or Full-time; including evenings, weekends, holidays, and early mornings as facility operations require About the Position Anchorage Community Ice Management is seeking a dependable, customer-focused individual to join our team as a Rink Attendant . The Rink Attendant is an important part of the day-to-day operation of the ice arena. This position works closely with the Zamboni Drivers and arena management to maintain safe, clean, and welcoming ice and facility conditions. The Rink Attendant will assist the Zamboni Driver during ice resurfacing, maintain the ice during and after cuts, assist with filling and preparing Zamboni equipment, and help ensure the ice resurfacing process runs safely and efficiently. This position also serves as an important customer-service point of contact for the facility. When assigned to the arena office window, the Rink Attendant will answer questions from the public, provide general information about arena operations, schedules, rules, and events, and direct customers to the appropriate staff member when additional assistance is needed. The ideal candidate is dependable, attentive, willing to learn, comfortable working in a cold environment, and able to communicate professionally with the public and coworkers. Starting Pay & Advancement Starting wage: $16.00 per hour. Employees are eligible for a 90-day performance review . Successful completion of the 90-day review may result in a wage increase based on performance, demonstrated skills, reliability, and overall job performance . Essential Duties Ice Operations Work under the direction of the Zamboni Driver and arena management. Assist the Zamboni Driver with ice resurfacing operations. Safely scrape snow and ice shavings from the ice at the conclusion of ice cuts. Help maintain clean and safe ice conditions between and after ice resurfacing. Fill Zamboni equipment with water and other required materials as directed. Assist with preparing the Zamboni for operation. Listen carefully to instructions from Zamboni Drivers and respond promptly to requests for assistance. Dependable attendance and punctuality. Communicate any ice conditions, hazards, equipment concerns, or other issues to the Zamboni Driver or management. Help maintain safe conditions around ice resurfacing and operational areas. Follow all facility procedures regarding ice maintenance and Zamboni operations. Assist with ice preparation and seasonal ice installation/removal as needed. Listen carefully to instructions from Zamboni Drivers and management. Safety & Compliance Follow all facility safety policies, procedures, and emergency protocols. Immediately report unsafe conditions, accidents, injuries, equipment failures, or other hazards to management. Maintain awareness of public activity around ice resurfacing and operational areas. Maintain a safe distance from moving Zamboni equipment and other machinery. Properly use required personal protective equipment and safety equipment. Participate in required training related to workplace safety, emergency procedures, ice operations, and arena operations. Perform all work in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local laws and facility policies. Responsibilities Facility Operations Assist with opening and closing duties. Remove trash from designated areas. Clean and maintain common areas, locker rooms, hallways, restrooms, and other facility spaces as assigned. Assist with maintaining a clean, organized, and safe arena environment. Help prepare the facility for games, practices, tournaments, events, and ice rentals. Assist with moving equipment, benches, goals, tables, chairs, and other arena equipment. Monitor facility conditions and report maintenance or safety concerns to management. Assist with snow, ice, water, and other seasonal facility needs as assigned. Assist arena staff with operational tasks as needed. Follow established procedures for restricted areas, mechanical spaces, and equipment areas. Dependable attendance and punctuality. Customer Service & Public Interaction Provide professional and courteous customer service to arena patrons. Staff the arena office window when assigned. Answer general questions from the public regarding facility operations, schedules, rules, events, and procedures. Provide directions and general assistance to skaters, parents, coaches, officials, rental groups, and other visitors. Assist customers and rental groups with basic facility needs. Direct questions, complaints, or issues requiring management involvement to the appropriate manager. Maintain a professional, helpful, and welcoming presence at the arena office and throughout the facility. Help ensure facility rules and safety expectations are communicated appropriately to patrons. Communication & Teamwork Maintain clear and professional communication with Zamboni Drivers, arena management, coworkers, customers, coaches, officials, and user groups. Listen carefully to instructions from Zamboni Drivers and management. Follow directions promptly and accurately. Communicate safety concerns, facility issues, customer concerns, and operational problems to the appropriate staff member. Work as part of the arena operations team to keep facility activities running safely and efficiently. Ask questions when instructions or procedures are unclear. Qualifications Required Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to communicate professionally with coworkers, customers, coaches, officials, and the general public. Dependable attendance and punctuality. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions. Ability to safely perform physical duties associated with arena operations. Ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and variable schedules as required by arena operations. Mechanical aptitude or experience operating machinery. Preferred Previous experience working in an ice arena, sports facility, maintenance, custodial, or operations environment. Customer service experience. Knowledge of hockey, figure skating, or other ice sports. CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain certification. Physical Requirements Standing and walking for extended periods. Bending, reaching, lifting, pushing, and pulling. Regularly lifting and carrying 40+ Lbs. Working in cold environments and around ice and water. Operating and working around mechanical equipment. Performing cleaning and general facility-maintenance tasks. Work Environment Cold temperatures and wet conditions. Early morning, evening, weekend, and holiday work. Working around ice resurfacing equipment and other facility machinery. Interaction with members of the public, youth athletes, coaches, officials, and facility rental groups. Periods of high activity during games, tournaments, and special events.

Compensation & Employment Starting Wage:

$16.00 per hour This is an hourly, non-exempt position. Employees will be paid for all hours worked in accordance with applicable wage and hour laws. Overtime will be paid when required by applicable law. Following approximately 90 days of employment, the employee will receive a performance review. Based on performance and demonstrated competency, the employee may be eligible for an increase in their hourly wage.
