Job Overview We are seeking an experienced Aquarium Maintenance Specialist/Technician to support the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), National Marine Fisheries Service, at the Ted Stevens Marine Research Institute in Juneau, Alaska. This position is responsible for maintaining public marine aquarium exhibits, ensuring the health and welfare of aquatic species, performing preventive maintenance on aquarium systems, collecting marine specimens, and supporting educational outreach initiatives. The ideal candidate has strong knowledge of marine biology, aquarium operations, aquatic animal care, and public engagement. This is an exciting opportunity to work with one of the nation's premier marine science organizations while contributing to the conservation and education of Alaska's marine ecosystems. Duties Manage the day-to-day operation and maintenance of public aquarium exhibits and holding tanks. Monitor aquatic animal health and ensure proper husbandry practices. Feed marine specimens according to species-specific dietary requirements. Monitor water quality and maintain optimal environmental conditions. Remove algae, clean aquarium viewing windows, and maintain exhibit appearance. Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on aquarium systems and seawater equipment. Conduct periodic deep cleaning of aquarium tanks and substrates. Collect indigenous marine fish and invertebrate specimens in accordance with state permits. Transport specimens safely and maintain all required collection and transport records. Assist in obtaining and maintaining Alaska collection permits. Conduct annual inventories of aquarium specimens and prepare required reports. Develop and improve educational aquarium exhibits representing Alaska marine habitats. Collaborate with NOAA staff to create educational and outreach materials. Communicate equipment, supply, and specimen needs to facility management. Care for animals housed in laboratory holding systems used to replenish exhibit populations. Requirements A general understanding of, or the ability to learn, the operations of the TSMRI sea water system at the component-level. The aquarium system is a passthrough of the sea water system with no filters or pumps. Experience in all areas of the specific tasks listed above. Experience in obtaining and maintaining a state permit for collection and transportation of marine species. B.S. in fisheries is preferred. Experience with communicating knowledge about aquarium fish to the public. Must be able to work weekends, evenings, and respond to emergencies within one hour of notification. Background investigations are required for all contractor staff proposed for this project, and must be completed prior to beginning work. All contract employees shall be physically, medically, and emotionally qualified for performing the required services.

Pay:
