Position Summary Wildman Lodge is seeking a professional, experienced guide to join our team for the summer season. This is a unique hybrid position combining wildlife and ecotour guiding with fly fishing instruction and guiding , offering the opportunity to showcase the incredible diversity of Alaska's Bristol Bay region. Our guests come to Wildman not only to fish, but to experience one of the most spectacular wilderness areas on Earth. Guides lead guests on unforgettable adventures that may include hiking remote tundra, exploring rivers by boat, flying by bush plane to incredible destinations, viewing Alaska's iconic wildlife, and fly fishing for world-class salmon and trout. We are looking for someone who is personable, safety-minded, adaptable, and passionate about sharing Alaska with others. The ideal candidate is equally comfortable teaching someone to cast a fly rod as they are leading a scenic hike or interpreting wildlife behavior from a respectful distance. Key Responsibilities Lead guided fly fishing trips for anglers of varying experience levels Provide fly casting instruction and individualized coaching Guide guests on hiking excursions through remote backcountry terrain Lead wildlife viewing, scenic boating, and bush plane excursion experiences Interpret local wildlife, ecology, geology, and natural history in an engaging and educational way Safely operate boats during fishing and sightseeing excursions Clean and maintain boats, vehicles, fishing gear, and outdoor equipment Clean and prepare fish for guest transport upon request Assist with general lodge operations, including gear preparation, fueling, loading aircraft and boats, and other daily lodge responsibilities Work closely with pilots, lodge staff, and fellow guides to coordinate daily excursions Qualifications Strong fly fishing skills required, including proficiency with single-hand fly rods Previous guiding experience strongly preferred Knowledge of Alaska wildlife, ecology, birds, and natural history preferred Comfortable leading guests on backcountry hikes over uneven tundra and remote terrain Excellent public speaking, communication, and guest service skills Strong boating experience; jet boat experience preferred Physically capable of hiking, lifting gear, loading aircraft and boats, and working long days in remote conditions Calm decision-maker with excellent situational awareness and sound judgment Positive attitude, flexibility, and the ability to thrive in a team-oriented, communal living environment Work Environment Wildman Lodge is a remote fly-in wilderness lodge located in Alaska's Bristol Bay region and is accessible only by bush plane. Guides live on-site with staff and guests for the duration of the season. Housing and meals are provided. No two days are the same. One day may involve floating a river with anglers pursuing salmon and trout; the next may include hiking alpine tundra in search of bears and caribou, photographing walrus along the coast, or flying guests to some of Alaska's most breathtaking wilderness locations. This position offers an incredible opportunity to work in one of North America's last truly wild places while helping guests create once-in-a-lifetime experiences.
