Westervelt's Forestry Internship provides real-world exposure to timberland management, harvest planning, reforestation, GIS applications, and operational decision-making across some of the Southeast's most productive forestlands. Our team of forestry professionals is dedicated to applying innovative practices and sound science to ensure the long-term health and productivity of our forests. As a Forestry Intern, you'll gain hands-on experience working alongside industry experts, contributing to meaningful projects, and learning how sustainable forestry supports both the environment and the communities we serve. Position Overview The Forestry Intern will support the Westervelt Forest Resources Group in a hands-on, field-based role designed to provide practical experience in forest management. This is an excellent opportunity for students pursuing a degree in forestry, natural resources, or a related field to gain exposure to real-world operations and decision-making. Key Responsibilities
Assist foresters with harvest planning, contract administration, and field inspections.
Participate in road layout, maintenance planning, and infrastructure assessments.
Support silvicultural activities including site preparation, planting, herbicide applications, and stand evaluations.
Gain exposure to nursery and seed orchard operations that support long-term forest sustainability.
Assist with timber inventory, data collection, and GIS mapping projects.
Monitor and implement Forestry Best Management Practices (BMPs) to support responsible land stewardship.
Work safely in a variety of field conditions across active timberland operations. What You ll Learn
