Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is looking to hire a Site Assistant Superintendent 1 for the Office of Land Management at Frank Holten State Park. This position will supervise and participate in the maintenance of all site facilities and buildings; coordinate and participate in groundskeeping and landscaping duties such as mowing, and trimming; service and repair equipment and maintain all service equipment records for the site; monitor site fuel, vehicles, and complete monthly tracking and reporting of both. Frank Holten State Park is 1,080-acre park located in St. Clair county and offers a 18-hole golf course, two lakes, open space, and within view of the St. Louis Gateway Arch. It was named for the late Frank Holten, who served the region in the Illinois General Assembly for 48 years. Directs and participates in site maintenance activities such as building repairs, vehicle and equipment maintnance, minor construction, minor electrical and plumbing repairs

Assists in the preparation of the annual operating budget and annual Plan of Work and Annual Report

Advises site visitors of site rules and regulations

Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably with the scope of the duties enumerated above

Minimum Qualifications Requires education and experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree with courses in parks and recreation, natural resource administration or public administration

Requires one year's related functional supervisory experience

Preferred Qualifications Working knowledge of the principles and practices of site administration, including site interpretation, natural and/or cultural resource conservation, structural and grounds maintenance, public relations, personnel administration, and fiscal management

Two (2) years of experience in problem solving situations encountered in the performance of the duties and responsibilities

One (1) year of experience assigning, supervising, and evaluation of work of subordinate employees

Employment Conditions Requires completion of a background check and self-disclosure of criminal history

Requires appropriate, valid Driver's license

Ability to obtain pesticide operator's license within 6 months of employment

Ability to withstand exposure to the elements on a year-round basis

Physical ability to operate and maintain tools, equipment, and materials utilized in the maintenance, repair, and care of site resources, buildings, and grounds

Ability to lift, carry, and transport loads exceeding sixty pounds

Ability to walk over rough and broken terrain

Ability to obtain and maintain First Aid/CPR certification
