No Location CountyDutchess Street AddressWalkway Over the Hudson State Historic Park 61 Parker Ave CityPoughkeepsie StateNY Zip Code12601 Job Specifics Duties DescriptionUnder the direction of a park manager, this position will serve as the on-site supervisor at Walkway Over the Hudson State Historic Park and will serve as the crew chief over permanent, temporary and seasonal staff. Duties will include but not be limited to the following: Office duties:
Assist with interviewing perspective employees, training new hires and supervising lower-level employees
Prepares various reports including Attendance, Revenue (SFS/BETS), NPS budget, Event permits
Reviews timecards, sign in sheets and schedules for accuracy
Works with community groups and organizations regarding facility use requests for special events
Assists with coordination of logistical aspects of both routine programs and special events including scheduling, planning and setup (staffing, security, traffic flow and cleanup)
Receives and replies to patron complaints/concerns in person both in person and on the phone
Assigns emergency work in absence of manager/supervisor
Monitors inventory of office supplies, tools and equipment
Reviews maintenance requests and submits appropriate work orders as needed
All other duties as assigned Maintenance duties:
General Park maintenance to include but not limited to Bathroom cleaning, Trash removal and Snow removal
Setup/Breakdown for events in the park
Assist staff in performing tasks, Crowd control/lane keeping
Assists with coordination of maintenance work for special events
Assigns work as needed/Inspects afterwards to ensure completion
Elevator operator as needed also communicates with elevator maintenance contractor to schedule routine and emergency maintenance calls and Troubleshoots elevator issues.

Appointment:
This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).
To be considered for appointment through NY HELPS, or 55 b/c, candidates must meet the minimum qualifications for this position.
The qualifications are:
1. three years' experience in the construction, operation, or maintenance of a park or recreational facility within a park;
one year of this experience must be at a supervisory level.
Or 2. an associate's or higher-level degree in construction management, construction technology, environmental education, environmental management, environmental policy, environmental sustainability, forestry, natural resources management, park administration, park management, recreation management or turfgrass management AND one year of supervisory experience in the construction, operation or maintenance of a park or recreational facility within a park.
a park or recreational facility within a park is defined as a location that offers at least three of the following elements: ballfields, campgrounds, golf courses, hiking trails, historic structures, marinas, picnic areas, playgrounds, recreation programs, swimming facilities or education, environmental or interpretive programming.

For the duration of the
NY HELPS
Program, this title maybe filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply. At a future date, it is expected employees hired under
NY HELPS
will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in a
NY HELPS
title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified. Additional Comments

OPERATING NEEDS:
Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license that allows the candidate to operate a vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
Must be able to supervise employees
Must be able to communicate in writing and comprehend written material.
Must be able to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Must have the ability to lift, carry and/or move equipment or materials of different weights and sizes and the ability to stand for long hours.
Must be able to act independently with a minimum of direct supervision.
