Description This Groundskeeper is responsible for the maintenance and general upkeep of the athletic fields and facilities. The person in this position works under the general supervision of the Associate Director of Grounds Operations. Responsibilities Mowing athletic fields and immediately adjacent areas using ride-on, stand-on, and/or walk-behind mowers or tractors. Perform weed abatement using power or manual techniques. Plant, edge, trim, dethatch, aerate, top dress, seed, and water athletic fields as needed. Install and remove various goal nets and safety netting as needed and inspect and repair any frames and/or necessary apparatus to hoist or secure said netting. Ensure outside athletic areas remain clean and free of litter. Maintain and repair, as needed, fencing, gates, and backstops. Construct and maintain pitcher's mounds, base paths, and baseball/softball infields. Lay out, string, and paint to the most current NCAA specifications all necessary fields, including but not limited to men's and women's soccer, men's and women's lacrosse, rugby, field hockey, baseball, softball, football, flag football, ultimate disc, volleyball, etc. Ability to measure and do calculations to ensure proper dimensions. Work from blueprints, drawings, sketches, and/or verbal and written instructions to lay out and carry out projects. Set up and break down tables, chairs, and other related items for events. Operate, troubleshoot, and repair both commercial and residential-type irrigation systems and components as needed. Brush cut, prune, and trim trees as necessary. Ability to operate, clean, and maintain any equipment needed to maintain athletic facilities such as mowers, tractors, utility carts, painters, weed whackers, grooming equipment, aerators, overseeders, sod cutters, power edgers, etc. Maintain and repair artificial "infilled" turf surface with such operations as gluing seams, grooming, vacuuming, painting, and removal of paint with approved methods to not void warranty. Snow removal in and around "infilled" turf fields, track, and natural grass surfaces is performed to minimize or prevent damage to any areas. May also be needed for general campus snow removal on roads, sidewalks, and parking areas. Make adjustments to regularly scheduled workdays and work overtime when available to meet deadlines for sporting events and athletic functions. Ability to provide basic supervision and assign tasks to student workers as needed. Other duties as assigned. Typical Qualifications Must have and maintain a valid Massachusetts driver's license. Must have and maintain a valid Class 2B Massachusetts Hoisting Engineer's license. A High School Diploma/GED or Vocational School Diploma is required Previous landscaping or horticulture experience, with preference given to those with athletic maintenance experience. 1-2 years of commercial or related experience.
