Position Summary The Land Management Worker reports to the Foreman and is responsible for maintaining the grounds of a 400+ acre property using hand or power tool equipment. Essential Job Responsibilities
Mows and edges lawns, using power mowers and edgers
Lays sod, sows grass, or plants flowers and foliage
Gathers and removes litter
Removes, prunes and trims trees, shrubs and hedges using shears, pruners or chain saws
Rakes, mulches, and composts leaves using hand tools
Trims and cleans flower beds
Waters lawns, trees and plants, using portable sprinkler systems, hoses or watering cans
Maintains and repairs tools, and equipment
Provides proper upkeep of sidewalks, parking lots, fountains, planters, and other grounds features
Snow removal using shovels, snow blowers or snow plow from walks and parking lots and spreading salt in those areas
Operates powered equipment such as mowers, tractors, twin axle vehicles, snow blowers, chain saws, electric clippers, sod cutters and pruning saws
Assists office staff and Main House staff with projects such as cleaning office and archives file storage areas, moving furniture, driving and maintenance
Performs special projects or related duties as required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Required
Skilled in digging, planting, transplanting, staking, and seasonal bed change-outs
Ability to safely operate and maintain common landscape tools including lawn mowers, sheers, sharpeners, shovels, spades, clippers and pruning equipment.
High attention to detail and presentation standards.
Ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines, and produce quality results on time.
Must be able to work in a team environment Working Conditions
Must be able to stand, walk, kneel, crouch, and bend for extended periods of time.
Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds and move materials such as soil, mulch, plants, containers, and tools.
Work safely in varying weather conditions (heat, cold, rain) and around uneven terrain.
Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as needed and follow all safety procedures. Work Environment
Office and outside environment, where the employee could be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibrations.
Could be exposed to extreme working conditions and loud noise levels and environments.
Regular work in formal gardens, lawns, paths, and specialty areas (e.g., meadow, pond/walled garden) and periodic work in greenhouses and storage areas. Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma, GED or equivalent
2-3 years of experience in a landscaping position
Experience or ability to learn how to use horticulture tools and machinery
Valid Driver's License and able to drive a small dump truck.
