Job Description

Position SummaryThe Garden Assistant supports the school garden and outdoor learning program through maintenance, student support, and coordination of garden-related activities. This position assists in maintaining a safe, organized, and productive garden environment while supporting hands-on educational experiences for students.

Reports ToSchool Administrator/Garden CoordinatorClassification Classified Hourly 7:30-3:30 Tuesdays and Thursdays for the 26-27 school year. (Bridgeport Location)Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesSupport the maintenance and daily operation of school garden and outdoor learning spaces by assisting with planting, watering, weeding, harvesting, composting, irrigation, seasonal cleanup, and general upkeep. Prepare garden areas, tools, equipment, and materials for instructional activities while ensuring spaces remain safe, organized, and functional. Monitor garden conditions and report maintenance or safety concerns as needed. Assist teachers and staff in facilitating outdoor and garden-based learning experiences by supporting student participation, reinforcing safety procedures, encouraging positive behavior, and providing individual or small-group assistance during activities. Collaborate with school staff to support educational programs, school events, and community activities connected to the garden program.

Communicate supply, equipment, and maintenance needs to administration in a timely manner. Demonstrate flexibility, teamwork, and professionalism in supporting the mission and values of the school. Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervising teacher or administrator, provided such duties are consistent with the supportive nature of the role.
