Based in Massachusetts but expanding nationally, Backbone Construction began operations in May 2023 with a focus on underground fiber optic infrastructure. Job Description :
Backbone Construction is seeking a dependable Aerial Groundman to join our Richmond, VA team. This position supports aerial construction crews by assisting linemen with site preparation, material handling, ground-level rigging, and general labor. The ideal candidate is safety-minded, reliable, comfortable working outdoors, and able to perform physically demanding work as part of a fast-paced construction crew.
Responsibilities:
Load, unload, organize, and stage tools, hardware, equipment, and materials at each work site. Assist linemen with physical labor, digging, and ground-level rigging. Prepare and maintain work areas for aerial construction activities. Assist with setting up job sites, including traffic cones, signs, and other required equipment. Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work zone. Assist with job-site cleanup and restoration at the end of the workday. Perform routine safety and equipment checks as directed. Follow company safety procedures and applicable OSHA and DOT requirements. Perform additional duties as assigned by crew leadership.
Qualifications:
Valid driver's license required. Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting and carrying tools and construction materials. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a crew. Dependable attendance and strong work ethic. Previous construction, utility, telecommunications, or aerial construction experience preferred, but not required.
Compensation & Benefits:
$18.00-$24.00 per hour, depending on experience. Full-time position. Health insurance. Dental insurance. Vision insurance. Paid time off.
