Job Description

DESCRIPTION
The Trail Crew Staff work in a crew maintaining trails and park facilities throughout the Kodiak Area. Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions and often at remote backcountry locations accessed by boat or small aircraft. Works occurs at Fort Abercrombie, Buskin River, Pasagshak River, Woody Island, Afognak Island, and Shuyak Island State Park units.
HOUSING:
Shared staff housing option available
REQUIRED
Chainsaw experience, Backcountry camping experience, Experience with hand and power tools, Good communication skills, Self motivated
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE WITH
Trail crews, ATV/UTVs, Tractors, Boating, Firearms Independent judgement
CREW DUTIES
Maintain and improve over 30 miles of trails, trailheads, bridges, boardwalks, public use cabins, campgrounds, docks, and outhouses. Projects include trail clearing with chainsaws and brush cutters, sign installation, carpentry, painting, facility repairs, and general park maintenance.
YOUR ROLE
Work with other crew members, Operate chainsaws and other power equipment, Learn to operate boats, ATVs, and specialized equipment Receive wildlife safety, bear deterrent, and wildlife firearms defense training, Work from remote backcountry dry cabins
ALL CANDIDATES MUST
Have a valid driver's license Be an Alaska resident, age 18 or older Be able to lift 50 lbs. and hike several miles each day Be willing to travel by boat and small aircraft This position includes access to firearms. Applicants must be legally eligible to possess firearms, including no felony convictions or misdemeanor convictions for crimes of domestic violence.
