Job Description

Position Description The Parklands of Floyds Fork is looking for an experienced individual to join the team as a Park Ranger. This highly responsible position will be responsible for delivery and execution of a park safety program that increases visitor safety and preservation of the park's natural, cultural, and recreational assets. This position is not a public law enforcement position. The Park Ranger is focused on protecting visitors' experience in The Parklands through delivery of enhanced patrols and visitor safety activities. Essential Functions Enforce park rules and regulations and promote good public relations and an outstanding visitor experience. Use strong interpersonal skills to inform and educate visitors on park rules including littering, alcohol use, resource protection/stewardship, and safe recreational amenity use. Traffic Control. Contact emergency medical personnel in case of serious injury and expedite first responder assistance. Contact Metro Police in the event of a suspicious or criminal activity occurring within The Parklands. Examine injured persons, and administer first aid or cardiopulmonary resuscitation if necessary, utilizing training and medical supplies and equipment. Interpret park assets to visitors. Observe activities in assigned areas in order to detect hazards, disturbances, or safety infractions. Patrol or monitor recreational areas such as trails, meadows, forests, and creek on foot, in vehicles, or from boats. Rescue distressed persons, using rescue techniques and equipment. Warn park visitors of inclement weather, unsafe areas, or illegal conduct. Inspect park amenities and facilities for cleanliness. Coordinate with events and operations staff for event setup and support. Serve as The Parklands liaison for first responder and public safety providers in Louisville. Assist staff with park clean up, maintenance, and repair tasks. Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Organizing, coordinating, and planning programs for operations, interpretations, safety and enforcement, and resource management and protection in public park settings; How to establish and maintain cooperative relations with the public and with representatives in other jurisdictions; Coordination of mutual aid operations with other agencies; Planning and implementing in-service training and employee development programs Ability to work independently in all weather conditions. Ability to work with the public. Must be physically capable of operating vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Must be able to lift 50 pounds and move easily in an outdoor setting with regular work in outdoor conditions without environmental controls. Some positions will require the performance of other essential and marginal functions depending upon work location, assignment, or shift. Ability to satisfactorily complete First Aid/CPR training. Additional requirements Communicate information and ideas in speaking so others will understand. Adhere to the uniform standard for personal appearance. Exert oneself physically over long periods of time without getting winded or out of breath. See details at a distance. See under low light conditions. Use short bursts of muscle force to propel oneself (as in jumping or sprinting), or to throw an object. Exert muscle force repeatedly or continuously over time. This involves muscular endurance and resistance to muscle fatigue. Secure all required certifications and licenses. Perform other duties as required. Benefits Part-time hourly position, competitive compensation based on experience; 2 shift workweek with some overtime as approved or needed for work conditions; pay commensurate with experience and expertise.
