The Park Ranger serves as a frontline ambassador, educator, and protector of Cherokee Nation Park lands. This role combines public engagement and resource conservation responsibilities to ensure safe, meaningful, and culturally informed visitor experiences.
Job Duties:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Serve as an information guide for all park visitors, offering accurate details on park amenities, cultural and historical significance, wildlife, and recreation opportunities. Plan and deliver nature-based programs, environmental education activities, and interpretation programs. Lead guided hikes, tours, and cultural or historical presentations. Monitor Park premises through regular patrols (vehicle and foot), ensuring visitor safety and resource protection. Ensure visitors have appropriate permits when required (e.g., special-use permits, access passes). Protect and promote the conservation of natural resources, historical sites, wildlife, and ecological integrity. Identify potential hazards or risks (e.g., unsafe structures, wildlife concerns, environmental degradation) and take appropriate corrective action. Support maintenance teams by reporting facility or trail issues and assisting with special projects when needed. File accurate and timely reports including incident logs, activity summaries, and visitor interactions. Operate and maintain assigned vehicles and equipment; maintain valid motor-vehicle licensing.
LEVEL OF RESPONSIBILITY
No supervisory responsibility. Assignments received in broad terms with timelines and objectives set.
Qualifications:
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree from a 4-year college or university; or six (6) years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. At least six (6) months of experience in a related field.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must possess a valid driver's license with a driving history verified through a motor vehicle report that meets requirements for Cherokee Nation underwriting rating.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
The employee must not be and will not be under sanction by the United States Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General (OIG) or by the General Services Administration (GSA) or listed on the OIG's Cumulative Sanction Report, or the GSA's List of Excluded Providers, or listed on the OIG's List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE). Must meet and maintain pre-employment and periodic background investigation and adjudication for childcare.
