Job Description

The Parks Crew Member supports safe, accessible, and well-maintained parks. They perform maintenance, repair, and operational activities under the Parks Foreman, including grounds and facility upkeep, seasonal operations, and forestry. Works independently and as part of a team, and may direct seasonal employees. View the full job description at: https://www.governmentjobs.com/careers/middletonwi/classspecs/1286142?keywords=parks&pagetype=classSpecifications What You'll Do As a Parks Crew Member, you'll help maintain and improve the City's parks, conservancies, recreational facilities, and public spaces.
Key responsibilities include:
Maintain parks, playgrounds, athletic fields, aquatic facilities, ice-skating facilities, conservancies, and other recreational areas. Operate a variety of vehicles and equipment, including dump trucks, tractors, loaders, mowers, turf equipment, sprayers, and hand and power tools. Care for trees, shrubs, flowers, turf, and other vegetation and assist with forestry, wildlife habitat, and natural resource management activities. Perform routine equipment maintenance and minor mechanical repairs on mowers, small engines, and other Parks equipment. Complete general maintenance and repair projects involving carpentry, concrete, plumbing, painting, and basic electrical work. Perform snow and ice removal from sidewalks, parking lots, bike paths, ice rinks, and other public areas. Assist with seasonal operations, including opening, maintaining, winterizing, and closing recreational facilities, aquatic facilities, irrigation systems, and other Parks infrastructure. Assist with pond maintenance, memorial bench installation and maintenance, and other special projects. Provide work direction and guidance to seasonal and limited-term employees as assigned. What You'll Bring Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. At least one year of experience in parks or facility maintenance, construction, or a closely related field. Valid driver's license. Ability to obtain a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within one year of employment. Ability to obtain the following certifications within one year of hire: Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP) Pesticide Applicator Certification National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG)

Wildland Firefighter Training Pool and Spa Operator Certification Preferred Qualifications Experience performing basic plumbing work. Experience operating maintenance, construction, grounds, or similar equipment. We're looking for someone who is dependable, safety-minded, and comfortable working both independently and as part of a team. The ideal candidate can prioritize multiple assignments, communicate effectively with coworkers and the public, safely operate tools and equipment, perform basic maintenance and repair work, and adapt to changing seasonal and operational needs. The City of Middleton recognizes that candidates bring a variety of backgrounds and experiences. An equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant work experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the position may be considered. Environment Work is performed primarily outdoors in all weather conditions, with possible exposure to noise, dust, fumes, and other environmental factors. Some indoor work is also necessary Physical Demands Work requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, reach, bend, stoop, and lift objects up to 40 pounds regularly Work requires extended periods of standing or walking Vision and hearing are required to perform essential functions and communicate effectively Work will require climbing, operating equipment, or working in confined spaces Job-Related Demands Work will involve contact with the public, requiring effective communication and professional conduct Work may involve exposure to stressful situations, deadlines, or conflict resolution
