Paving Superintendent

Job Description

Experience Minimum 3-5 years of asphalt paving experience, with at least 2 years in a superintendent or senior foreman role Strong background in commercial, industrial, municipal, and/or DOT paving Experience managing multiple paving crews and projects simultaneously Experience with parking lots, roadways, large commercial sites, subdivisions, and heavy civil/site-development projects Proven history of delivering paving work safely, on schedule, within budget, and to specification Technical Knowledge Strong understanding of asphalt mix designs, placement temperatures, compaction, density, and rolling patterns Knowledge of proper subgrade, stone base, proof rolling, fine grading, milling, tack coat, paving, and compaction procedures Ability to identify and correct drainage, grade, smoothness, segregation, joint, and compaction issues Able to read and interpret plans, specifications, paving details, elevations, and project schedules Working knowledge of
DOT/TDOT
specifications and testing requirements preferred Familiar with asphalt testing, density testing, cores, yield calculations, tonnage reconciliation, and material quantities Operations & Production Able to plan paving operations including crew size, equipment, trucking, asphalt plant coordination, production rates, and daily tonnage Strong understanding of paving equipment including pavers, rollers, milling machines, skid steers, brooms, tack trucks, and related equipment Capable of coordinating trucking and plant production to minimize paver stops and unnecessary downtime Able to establish and track daily and weekly production goals Understands job costing and can identify production problems before they negatively impact project profitability Able to coordinate paving operations with grading, utilities, concrete, striping, traffic control, and other trades Leadership Proven ability to lead and hold accountable foremen, operators, laborers, and truck drivers Able to develop strong paving foremen and crews rather than personally managing every detail Strong communicator with project managers, general contractors, inspectors, owners, asphalt plants, and field personnel Willing to be hands-on in the field and spend significant time visiting active paving projects Able to manage changing schedules, weather delays, equipment issues, and customer demands without losing control of production Safety & Quality Strong safety record and demonstrated commitment to safe paving operations Knowledge of traffic control, work-zone safety, equipment safety, and OSHA requirements Takes ownership of finished-product quality, including appearance, drainage, ride quality, joints, edges, density, and cleanup Willing to stop or correct work that does not meet company quality standards Technology & Administrative Skills Comfortable using smartphones, tablets, email, electronic plans, and construction management software Experience with HCSS or similar heavy-construction production/job-costing software is a plus Able to complete daily reports, production reports, timecards, quantities, and equipment documentation accurately
Pay:
$75,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
