This role requires a strong foundation in carpentry fundamentals from a recognized apprenticeship program, along with the precision needed to work with door hardware sets, access control hardware, and life-safety egress components. Key Responsibilities Install hollow metal doors, frames, and finish hardware (hinges, closers, exit devices, locksets, etc.) per approved hardware sets and shop drawings. Read and interpret architectural plans, door schedules, and hardware sets accurately in the field. Fit, adjust, and template doors and frames for proper alignment, clearance, and code-compliant operation. Install and adjust access control hardware components (electric strikes, mag locks, card readers, panic hardware) in coordination with the low-voltage/access control team. Perform field measurements and takeoffs to support accurate ordering and installation. Maintain compliance with life-safety and egress code requirements on fire-rated and non-rated door assemblies. Follow all site-specific safety requirements, including OSHA standards and project-specific safety plans. Communicate daily progress, material needs, and field issues to the Field Foreman and Project Manager. Maintain accurate daily timekeeping records in compliance with certified payroll/prevailing wage reporting requirements. Keep company vehicles, tools, and equipment organized, maintained, and job-site ready. Required Qualifications Graduate of a recognized carpentry apprenticeship program — union (e.g., UBC-affiliated) or non-union — with documentation of completion. Solid understanding of commercial door, frame, and hardware installation methods and terminology. Ability to read blueprints, door schedules, and hardware sets. Comfortable working on active public works, school, and commercial construction sites. Own hand tools appropriate for finish carpentry and door/hardware installation. Reliable personal vehicle for commuting to job sites across CA and NV. Must be able to pass a pre-employment background check. Must be able to pass a pre-employment and random drug screening. Valid driver's license with a clean driving record; ability to travel to job sites across CA and NV as needed. Ability to lift, carry, and maneuver doors, frames, and hardware (up to 75 lbs) and work from ladders/lifts as required. Preferred Qualifications Prior experience specifically with commercial door hardware brands (Schlage, Corbin Russwin, HES, Von Duprin, LCN, or similar). Experience working on California public works/prevailing wage projects. Familiarity with access control and electrified hardware installation. DHI or similar door/hardware industry certifications (AHC, CDC, or working toward certification). Compensation Prevailing wage rate per the applicable California DIR Carpenter determination for the project/county, where applicable.
