Full Job Description Residential Construction Foreman Foreman Job Description:
1. The foreman shall have expertise, or competent familiarity with, residential construction; everything from layout to punch list. This includes, but is not limited to, print reading, layout on site, transit/level usage, excavation techniques, footer/foundation work, drainage plumbing on exterior, rough framing (esp. working with angles, high pitch work, circular work, use of rafter square), siding, roofing (shingle, shake, metal), deck/porch construction, grading with machinery, flashing, drywall, painting, texturing, finish carpentry, tile, cabinetry construction/installation, countertop construction/installation, some electrical/plumbing work, punch list completion, and customer relations. 2. Due to the broader scope of work of Master Builders, New Construction, Remodeling, and Landscape Architecture (not landscaping), the ideal candidate should have some familiarity with grade preparation, rock wall work, flagstone installation, skidsteer usage, irrigation systems, water feature installation, and landscape feature construction. 3. The foreman shall, in addition to the above, have competency in areas of geometric math applications, prioritizing work to be done daily/weekly, schedule planning per weekly goals (which come from construction workerager), appropriate crew work designation according to crew member's ability, encouraging/motivating crew as needed, keeping construction supervisor informed on progress and customer informed as needed, keeping accurate track of job cost labor and helping Master Builders to maintain profitability by keeping the construction work manager informed of site status, suggestions, and new ways of possibly doing things to increase efficiency and productivity. The supervisor may, at times, have to run to the local hardware store/building supply store, to pick up items that may be needed. Most of the time this is not the case. 4. The foreman should see construction as a life calling and truly enjoy this kind of work. 5. The foreman is paid for hours worked on site. This is a W-4 job, but not salary at this point. 6. The foreman reports to the construction work manager. 7. The manager should have all his hand tools, all the commonly used everyday power tools, preferably cordless system. The supervisor should own reliable transportation, a truck or van. 8. Pay rate is, of course, dependent on your experience. The range is $28.00 to $40.00 per hour with bonuses and commissions possible. 9. Beyond the foreman position, there is a possibility of profit sharing; so growth in the company is there.
