Job Description

Knife River is seeking a Rail Crew Foreman/Leadman to lead daily rail construction and maintenance operations on heavy civil projects. This role supervises crew members, coordinates equipment and materials, and ensures work is completed safely, on time, and to quality specifications. Responsibilities include reading plans, laying track, overseeing grading and ballast placement, inspecting work, and enforcing safety procedures. The Foreman/Leadman will train and mentor crew, communicate with project managers and inspectors, complete daily reports, and help troubleshoot field issues while promoting Knife River's safety-first, team-oriented culture. Responsibilities Lead and supervise daily activities of rail construction and maintenance crew. Plan work, allocate labor, and coordinate equipment and materials for rail projects. Read and interpret plans, specifications, and grade stakes for rail alignment and construction. Inspect track, ballast, ties, and related work to ensure quality and compliance with standards. Enforce safety policies, conduct tailgate meetings, and identify and mitigate jobsite hazards. Train, guide, and mentor crew members to build skills and maintain productivity. Communicate with project managers, inspectors, and other contractors on scheduling and progress. Complete daily reports, timecards, and documentation of work performed and materials used. Assist with hands-on rail work, including track installation, alignment, and maintenance as needed. Troubleshoot field issues and recommend practical solutions to keep projects on schedule.
