Job Summary We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Civil Construction Technician to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be responsible for supporting the construction and installation of telecommunications infrastructure, including fiber optic systems and network cabling, in outdoor environments. Your expertise will ensure that projects are completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards. Duties Assist with the installation, maintenance, and repair of fiber optic cables and telecommunications network infrastructure in outdoor settings. Operate heavy equipment such as bucket trucks, power tools, and other construction machinery safely and effectively. Interpret technical drawings, schematics, and installation diagrams to ensure accurate deployment of cabling and equipment. Conduct telecommunications testing using specialized testing equipment to verify network performance and troubleshoot issues. Perform telecommunications cable splicing, fiber splicing, and connectorization adhering to industry standards such as the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC). Support outside plant operations by managing cable routing, trenching, backfilling, and ensuring compliance with safety protocols. Use diagnostic tools to identify issues within fiber optic networks or telecommunication systems and provide technical troubleshooting support. Climb poles or structures using appropriate safety gear for installing or repairing telecommunication lines. Maintain detailed records of work performed, including technical documentation, inspection reports, and project logs. Experience Proven experience in field service roles related to telecommunications or civil construction projects involving outdoor work environments. Hands-on experience operating heavy equipment such as bucket trucks, power tools, and telecommunication installation tools. Knowledge of fiber optic systems installation—including splicing, testing, and troubleshooting—along with familiarity with telecommunication cable splicing techniques. Strong understanding of telecommunications outside plant operations, network infrastructure installation, and low voltage wiring practices. Ability to interpret technical drawings, schematics, and wiring diagrams accurately. Experience working with computer networking concepts such as LAN (Local Area Network), WAN (Wide Area Network), Ethernet connections, and IT infrastructure components. Familiarity with safety standards including the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) and best practices for outdoor work environments. Skilled in using diagnostic tools for troubleshooting fiber optic networks or telecommunication systems effectively. Demonstrated ability to perform climbing activities safely while installing or maintaining overhead lines or structures. Excellent technical troubleshooting skills supported by practical knowledge of telephony systems, fiber optic cables, cabling techniques, and engineering troubleshooting methods.
