The General Laborer for the 2nd Shift Non-Ferrous Pick Line maintains a safe, efficient, and environmentally compliant worksite. This position supports Non-Ferrous operations by identifying and sorting materials to ensure quality control. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Responsible for maintaining a safe and clean working environment. Confirms the quality of scrap being purchased is up to standard. Responsible for upgrading material when able and ensuring the product is to the cleanest standard. Ensures the weights being entered into the scrap purchasing system are accurate. Sorts material to sell as the correct commodity. Communicates via radio often with scale staff about vehicles that have dropped certain commodities off and any deducts from the loads before the customer is paid out. Safely, effectively, and respectfully load and unload various types of trailers. Ensures the equipment is getting cleaned and the maintenance attention it needs by notifying the appropriate people of any issues. Runs UBCS through the bailing system, ensures they are clean of any debris. Engages and seeks opportunities to cross-train as needed. Performs other duties as assigned or directed. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Work Environment This role is performed in an industrial recycling environment and may require exposure to varying temperatures, noise levels, and airborne particles. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and heavy equipment. PPE will be provided and must be worn at all times.
