Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled worker within our materials division. This role requires physical stamina, attention to safety, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment. This individual will provide support for processing woodland and agricultural materials for a small and exciting farm project and communal property. This position is for a 1099 Contractor . There are two different working locations (both in Canaan/New Lebanon, NY), located 2 miles apart:
Healing Harvest Farm/Hellgate Farm:
an off-grid human powered farm that moves to educate and support in reconnecting to our basic needs through decentralized food production, shelter building, and medicine crafting, both for empowerment and wellness in the uncertain times we live.
Hitchcock House :
a small community in New Lebanon on a 124-acre property valuing wellness, music, and the arts. This property also hosts the farm and a community garden. We are working to provide shared spaces to support those in our community.
About Us:
Our project and crew takes pride in providing meaningful spaces to our community, this includes our workspaces and daily mentality. At times we open up the farm/project to the community and inspiring farmers and builders. The farm is part of a work-exchange program, WWOOF, in which we house volunteers for an educational experience in farming, regenerative-building, and self-sufficient infrastructure. We also encourage our crew members to be creative and be involved with the design, planning, and building of our numerous projects, depending on skill and available time. We provide communal lunch and coffee/tea/snack break for our crew during most of the season and encourage crew members to "chef it up" and contribute to meals and engage in other social outings we might do as a group. The ideal candidate will be responsible for supporting various processing/material allocation, maintenance, and installation projects, answering to different supervisors and project leads. Duties Schedule is 8:00am-5:00pm Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday (little flexibility) Operate tools and equipment (this includes power tools, chain saws , hand tools, chippers. Proficiency with compact tractor/heavy machinery and truck w/ trailer is a bonus). Wood processing (assisting with bandsaw mill, pre/post processing of logs and off cuts, chipping branches for wood chips, firewood processing, wood storage/organization, transporting lumber). Compost production. Landscape/rental maintenance (small maintenance jobs, cleanup, trail maintenance, working ground for build sites, etc.). Perform general labor tasks such as digging, lifting, and moving supplies. Support skilled tradespeople and farmers with their tasks as needed. (this may include supporting with material allocation, layout, design choices, installation, earthworks, moving materials, basic carpentry, etc.) Maintain a clean and organized work area to ensure safety standards are met. Contribute to the overall efficiency of project workflows by performing assigned tasks promptly, jumping from supporting one project/crew member to the next. Experience Prior experience in construction, maintenance, or related fields is preferred. Ability to operate basic hand/power tools and machinery including chainsaws. Strong physical stamina and the ability to perform manual labor and withstand outdoor conditions (temperature/weather) for extended periods. Ability to follow instructions carefully, be self-directed, flexible, able to work both independently and with crews.
