Job Description

Public Works Laborer Borough of Leetsdale, Pennsylvania Full-Time Position Pay:
$23.00-$26.00 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience The Borough of Leetsdale is accepting applications for a full-time Public Works Laborer to join the Borough's Public Works Department. Leetsdale is a small, close-knit community located along the Ohio River in Allegheny County, approximately 12 miles northwest of Downtown Pittsburgh. The Borough provides a variety of direct municipal services to its residents, and its Public Works Department plays an important role in maintaining local streets, parks, public property, and community services. This position offers an opportunity for a dependable, hardworking individual to become part of a municipal public works operation where employees perform a wide variety of duties and have a direct impact on the community they serve. Position Summary The Public Works Laborer performs skilled and semi-skilled manual work associated with the maintenance and operation of Borough streets, parks, facilities, equipment, and municipal services. Work is performed both independently and as part of a crew and requires regular outdoor work in varying weather conditions. Public Works employees are expected to provide dependable service, safely operate Borough vehicles and equipment, interact professionally with residents, and assist with the wide variety of activities necessary to maintain the Borough. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Typical duties include, but are not limited to: Performing routine street and roadway maintenance, including patching, minor repairs, cleaning, and related work. Assisting with snow and ice removal operations, including plowing, salting, and preparation of equipment. Installing, repairing, and maintaining traffic and street signs. Maintaining Borough parks, playgrounds, green spaces, and other public property. Performing grass cutting, trimming, landscaping, leaf collection, and general grounds maintenance. Participating in the Borough's weekly residential refuse collection. Participating in biweekly residential recycling collection. Performing general maintenance and minor repairs to Borough buildings, facilities, vehicles, tools, and equipment. Operating Borough trucks, tractors, mowers, snow-removal equipment, and other public works equipment for which the employee is qualified. Assisting with special events, seasonal activities, emergency response, and other Borough operations as needed. Performing other duties as assigned by the Public Works Supervisor or Borough administration.
Minimum Qualifications Applicants should:
Be at least 18 years of age. Possess a valid Pennsylvania driver's license with an acceptable driving record. Be capable of performing physically demanding outdoor work. Be able to safely lift, carry, push, pull, and handle materials and equipment associated with public works operations. Be willing and able to work outdoors during heat, cold, rain, snow, and other weather conditions. Be available for overtime, emergency call-outs, and snow and ice operations when required. Be able to work effectively as part of a small team and interact professionally with Borough residents and the public. Be dependable and capable of reporting to work on time and maintaining regular attendance. CDL Requirement A Pennsylvania Commercial Driver's License (CDL), Class B, is required for the position. Applicants who do not currently possess the required CDL may be considered but must obtain a Class B CDL within one (1) year of employment. Candidates who already possess a Class B CDL, relevant equipment-operation experience, or previous municipal/public works experience may receive preference. Preferred Experience While not required, preference may be given to applicants with experience in one or more of the following areas: Municipal public works, road maintenance, construction, landscaping, refuse or recycling collection, snow removal, equipment operation, CDL vehicle operation, building or facility maintenance, or similar trades. Compensation The starting wage is $23.00 to $26.00 per hour, depending upon the successful candidate's qualifications, experience, CDL status, and applicable skills. The successful candidate will be subject to a one-year probationary period. Additional information regarding the Borough's employee benefits, work schedule, overtime opportunities, holidays, leave, and other terms and conditions of employment will be provided during the hiring process. Why Work for Leetsdale Borough? Municipal public works provides an opportunity to perform meaningful, hands-on work that residents see and depend upon every day. Unlike positions focused on a single trade or task, this position offers exposure to a broad range of work, including streets, parks, sanitation, recycling, equipment, facilities, and seasonal operations. Leetsdale's small size also means Public Works employees are an important and visible part of the community and have the opportunity to see the direct results of their work.
