Job Description

SENIOR PROJECT MANAGER
Bigfork, Montana Founded in 1960, Martel Construction Inc. is one of Montana's premier general contractors, with markets in Bozeman, Big Sky, Bigfork and Missoula. Our hands on approach includes self performing key elements of our projects and is supported by our 25,000 square foot custom millwork shop in Missoula. We are seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager for our Bigfork Market. This is a project ownership position for a proven construction professional who can independently lead complex residential and commercial projects from preconstruction through closeout. The successful candidate will bring the judgment, technical knowledge and leadership required to take full ownership of project outcomes.
WHAT YOU WILL OWN
  • Overall financial, contractual, schedule and client performance of assigned projects.
  • Projects from preconstruction, estimating and procurement through construction, turnover and final closeout.
  • Project budgets, buyout, commitments, cost forecasting, billing, change management and cost to complete projections.
  • Development, maintenance and recovery of overall and short-range project schedules, including identification of critical path risks.
  • Subcontractor and supplier procurement, contract administration, performance and commercial issues.
  • Owner, architect, consultant and subcontractor relationships, including clear communication of project status, risks and decisions.
  • Change orders, requests for information, submittals, project documentation, claims and other contractual processes.
  • Leadership and accountability of the Project Engineer and Superintendent in delivering cost, quality, safety, schedule and client expectations.
  • Project closeout, turnover, punch list completion and final financial reconciliation.
WHAT YOU BRING
  • 8+ years of direct experience independently managing construction projects as a Project Manager.
  • A demonstrated record of taking projects from preconstruction through closeout, with full responsibility for project outcomes.
  • Strong experience managing project financial performance, including budgets, buyout, commitments, cost reporting, forecasting, billing and cost to complete.
  • Strong experience with subcontract agreements, procurement, change orders, owner changes and subcontractor change management.
  • Thorough understanding of submittals, RFIs, formal project documentation and contract administration.
  • Strong understanding of construction processes and project delivery methods, with the ability to identify and resolve issues before they affect cost, schedule or quality.
  • Proven ability to develop, manage and recover project schedules, including identification of critical path risks.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead Superintendents, Project Engineers, subcontractors and consultants toward project objectives.
  • Confidence communicating directly with sophisticated owners, architects and consultants and representing the general contractor professionally.
  • Strong problem solving skills, sound judgment and a willingness to take ownership when a project is not going according to plan.
  • Bachelor's degree in construction engineering, business or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with SWPPP management, record keeping and document control is preferred.
  • Reliable commute to Bigfork or a commitment to relocate before starting work.
