Job Description

Job Title Night Shift General Superintendent / Construction Manager Location Clayton, NC Employment Type Contract-to-Hire (Temp-to-Permanent Opportunity) Schedule Night Shift Position Current anticipated schedule: Week 1: Monday-Friday Nights (approximately 58 hours) Week 2: Monday-Thursday Nights (approximately 48 hours) Friday shift may be shortened based on project needs Weekend work may be required to support critical project activities Schedule is subject to change based on project demands This position requires active participation in both night-to-day and day-to-night shift turnover meetings to ensure seamless communication, safety compliance, and project continuity. Position Overview We are seeking an experienced Night Shift General Superintendent / Construction Manager to support the construction of the Aseptic Production 1 (AP1) Building in Clayton, NC. This role will lead field execution during night shift operations and serve as the primary onsite construction leader responsible for safety, quality, productivity, and coordination across multiple disciplines and subcontractors. The ideal candidate will possess extensive Life Sciences construction experience, strong leadership capabilities, and expertise managing large-scale MEP-intensive projects within regulated pharmaceutical manufacturing environments. This leader will collaborate closely with day-shift management, client stakeholders, trade partners, and project leadership to ensure construction activities are executed efficiently, safely, and in accordance with project schedules and quality expectations. Key Responsibilities Construction Management & Field Leadership Lead and supervise all night-shift construction activities across the AP1 project site. Direct and coordinate multi-discipline construction teams and subcontractors. Monitor field productivity, schedule adherence, and work quality. Coordinate daily shift handovers with day-shift supervision and project leadership. Ensure construction activities are executed according to project plans, specifications, and quality standards. Identify field issues, develop solutions, and drive timely resolution of construction challenges. Support construction sequencing, work packaging, and execution planning. Safety Leadership Champion a proactive "Safety First" culture across all project activities. Ensure compliance with company, client, OSHA, and site-specific safety requirements. Conduct field safety observations and audits. Lead safety meetings, toolbox talks, and incident prevention initiatives. Address unsafe conditions and behaviors immediately. MEP & Technical Oversight Supervise MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) installation activities. Coordinate pressure testing, flushing, cleaning, passivation, blowdown, and drying activities. Support readiness for commissioning, qualification, and turnover activities. Verify installation quality and compliance with project specifications. Coordinate activities among mechanical, electrical, process piping, automation, and facility systems teams. Subcontractor & Stakeholder Coordination Coordinate daily work with subcontractors and client representatives. Facilitate communication across trades to minimize conflicts and improve productivity. Monitor subcontractor performance and schedule commitments. Support construction progress meetings and planning sessions. Build strong working relationships with client personnel and project stakeholders. Quality Assurance & Commissioning Support Ensure compliance with Quality Control (QC) and Quality Assurance (QA) requirements. Support inspection, testing, and turnover documentation efforts. Coordinate commissioning and qualification activities associated with MEP systems. Ensure construction work supports successful startup and validation milestones. Required Qualifications Education Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related discipline preferred. Equivalent construction management experience may be considered in lieu of degree. Experience 15+ years of construction site experience. 15+ years of experience as: General Foreman Superintendent Construction Manager General Superintendent Experience leading large-scale construction projects within the Life Sciences, Pharmaceutical, Biotechnology, or Advanced Manufacturing industries. Technical Experience Strong field supervision experience managing craft labor and subcontractors. Extensive experience overseeing MEP construction activities.
Experience coordinating:
Pipe pressure testing System flushing Cleaning activities Passivation Blowdown operations Drying procedures Experience managing construction activities across multiple subcontractors and disciplines. Working knowledge of QA/QC programs and reporting. Knowledge of commissioning and qualification processes related to MEP systems. Leadership & Communication Strong safety leadership background. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work effectively with clients, subcontractors, and project teams. Strong conflict resolution and problem-solving skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced construction environment. Preferred Qualifications Life Sciences or Pharmaceutical construction experience. Knowledge of GMP-regulated manufacturing environments. Cleanroom construction experience.

Ability to work in active construction environments and varying weather conditions. Ability to walk large construction sites for extended periods. Ability to climb ladders and stairs. Ability to stand for prolonged periods. Ability to bend, kneel, crouch, and reach as required. Ability to navigate uneven terrain and confined work areas safely. Ability to lift moderate weights when necessary. Strong visual acuity for inspections, safety monitoring, and drawing reviews. Strong hearing capability to maintain situational awareness. Manual dexterity required for inspections and field-related activities.
