is a growing commercial general contractor serving the Rio Grande Valley and South Texas. Our projects include commercial tenant improvements, retail, healthcare and dental buildouts, concrete saw cutting, and exterior-envelope work. We are looking for a motivated professional who wants to develop a broad understanding of commercial construction and grow into increasing project-management responsibility. The Opportunity We are seeking an entry-level Assistant Project Manager / Assistant Construction Manager with 0-2 years of experience . This is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate in construction management, architecture, engineering, or a related field who wants broad, hands-on experience and direct mentorship from company leadership. Unlike a narrowly defined position at a large company, this role provides exposure to the full project lifecycle , including preconstruction, scheduling, field coordination, procurement, cost tracking, change management, client communication, project documentation, and closeout. The successful candidate will be expected to learn quickly, take ownership of assigned responsibilities, communicate consistently, and demonstrate measurable progress throughout each project. Primary Responsibilities Assist with project schedules, weekly planning, milestone tracking, and action-item follow-up. Coordinate subcontractors, vendors, materials, deliveries, and site logistics. Prepare and track RFIs, submittals, change orders, purchase orders, and closeout documents. Support budget tracking, job-cost reports, pay applications, invoice review, and cost documentation. Maintain current drawings, specifications, logs, meeting minutes, project correspondence, and progress photographs. Visit jobsites, document progress, support inspections, and assist with punch-list completion. Coordinate with owners, architects, engineers, landlords, authorities having jurisdiction, subcontractors, and trade partners. Support safety documentation, permits, material procurement, and delivery tracking. Assist with identifying schedule, procurement, coordination, and project risks before they become problems. Assist with healthcare, dental, retail, concrete saw-cutting, tenant-improvement, and other commercial projects. Use project-management technology and AI tools to improve organization, communication, documentation, research, and project efficiency. Performance, Accountability & Professional Development This position is designed around coaching, measurable performance, and increasing responsibility . Performance Bonus The position includes a performance-based bonus opportunity tied to four to five measurable project goals established at the beginning of the assignment or review period.
Each goal will include:
A clearly defined deliverable. A measurable completion standard. An expected timeline or deadline. Clearly communicated performance expectations. Performance will be evaluated based on documented completion and quality of assigned deliverables, project progress, communication, reliability, and achievement of the established goals. Daily Coaching & Check-Ins The candidate will receive direct coaching from the Project Manager through regular daily check-ins . Daily check-ins will be used to: Review completed work. Establish priorities for the day. Identify and address obstacles. Provide coaching and feedback. Review project developments. Confirm upcoming deadlines and deliverables. Adjust priorities based on project needs. The goal is to provide a structured learning environment while developing the candidate's ability to independently manage responsibilities over time. Daily Reporting & Accountability The candidate will be expected to provide a daily task and project-status report .
The report should summarize:
Tasks completed. Deliverables completed or submitted. Project developments and important updates. Outstanding tasks. Issues, delays, or obstacles. Items requiring Project Manager guidance or decisions. Priorities for the next workday. Strong organization and consistent communication are essential to success in this position. Travel & Field Expectations This is a primarily remote/office-based coordination position with regular field responsibilities , depending on project needs. The candidate should expect to travel to South Texas jobsites as required. In addition to routine virtual jobsite responsibilities, limited project-specific travel may be required at key stages of a project , including: Project Kickoff An initial onsite visit may be required to: Review project scope and expectations. Meet project stakeholders and trade partners. Establish communication and reporting protocols. Review site conditions. Confirm project responsibilities and priorities. Mid-Project Progress Visit A mid-project onsite visit may be required to: Review project progress. Verify deliverables. Identify outstanding issues. Coordinate with field personnel and trade partners. Evaluate schedule and project milestones. Address issues requiring onsite attention. Project Closeout A final onsite visit may be required to: Review remaining project details. Assist with punch-list completion. Verify outstanding deliverables. Coordinate final documentation. Support successful project closeout. Travel Reimbursement Approved business travel will be reimbursed in accordance with company policy. Reasonable travel expenses and applicable per diem for meals will be reimbursed for approved project-related travel. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in construction management, architecture, engineering, or a related field; equivalent relevant experience will be considered. 0-2 years of construction, design, estimating, or project-coordination experience, including internships. Strong organizational, written and verbal communication skills. Strong task-management and logistical skills. Ability to prioritize multiple assignments and meet deadlines. Ability to read and understand construction drawings, or demonstrated ability and willingness to learn quickly. Strong knowledge and practical interest in AI tools and technology , including the ability to use AI responsibly to improve productivity, research, documentation, communication, and project coordination. Strong attention to detail and follow-through. Ability to work independently while also receiving and applying coaching. Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and ability to travel to South Texas jobsites. Preferred Qualifications Commercial construction or construction internship experience. Experience with Procore or similar project-management software . Experience with Bluebeam Revu . Familiarity with scheduling software. Experience with estimating, takeoffs, budgeting, or job-cost tracking. Bilingual English/Spanish communication skills. Familiarity with construction documentation, RFIs, submittals, change orders, pay applications, and closeout processes. Compensation & Benefits $55,000-$65,000 base salary , based on relevant experience and demonstrated skills. Strong candidates may be considered above the posted range based on qualifications and experience. Performance bonus opportunity based on four to five measurable project goals. The role is designed to provide flexibility while maintaining strong project accountability. Limited hybrid/remote flexibility may be available after successful onboarding and demonstration of the ability to independently manage assigned responsibilities. An experienced Texas-based candidate may be considered for a primarily remote/hybrid arrangement with scheduled site travel and clearly defined availability and reporting expectations.
