The ideal candidate will possess strong experience inspecting sewer collection systems, underground utility improvements, manhole construction, roadway restoration, and related public works infrastructure projects. This position requires a proactive inspector with strong Sewer Inspection knowledge and who can effectively coordinate with contractors, engineers, agency staff, and stakeholders while ensuring construction activities comply with approved plans, specifications, contract requirements, and applicable municipal standards. Key Responsibilities Perform field inspection of municipal sanitary sewer and public works construction projects to verify compliance with approved plans, specifications, permits, and contract requirements. Inspect installation, testing, and acceptance of sanitary sewer pipelines, manholes, laterals, and associated underground utility infrastructure. Monitor construction activities involving trenching, shoring, excavation, backfill, compaction, pavement restoration, and utility relocations. Maintain detailed daily inspection reports, project logs, construction diaries, quantity records, and photographic documentation. Coordinate and document material testing, compaction testing, CCTV inspections, leakage testing, and other quality assurance activities. Provide Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) oversight to ensure compliance with agency standards, project specifications, and approved Quality Assurance Plans. Identify deficiencies, issue correction notices, and verify corrective actions are completed in accordance with project requirements. Track contractor compliance with traffic control plans, safety requirements, and permit conditions. Attend progress meetings and coordinate with contractors, utility companies, consultants, and agency representatives regarding field issues and project progress. Prepare, review, and maintain as-built records throughout construction. Develop and maintain punch lists, verify completion of corrective work, and participate in project closeout and final acceptance inspections. Provide off-hours, weekend, or emergency inspection support when required by project schedules. Desired Project Experience Candidates should have direct inspection experience on one or more of the following municipal infrastructure projects: Sanitary sewer collection system improvements Sewer pipeline installation and rehabilitation Sewer manhole replacement and rehabilitation Underground utility construction and utility relocations Water distribution systems and pipeline improvements Storm drain and drainage facility improvements Street rehabilitation and roadway restoration projects Traffic striping, pavement marking, and traffic control implementation Pump stations and municipal facility improvements Curb, gutter, sidewalk, and ADA accessibility improvements Minimum Qualifications Minimum 7 years of construction inspection experience on municipal public works projects. Minimum 3 years of direct sanitary sewer inspection experience for cities, counties, sanitation districts, or public agencies. Strong knowledge of sewer construction methods, underground utility installation, trench safety practices, testing procedures, and municipal construction standards. Experience inspecting VCP, PVC, HDPE, ductile iron, or reinforced concrete pipe installations. Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, standard drawings, permits, and contract documents. Experience preparing detailed daily inspection reports and maintaining construction documentation. Strong communication, coordination, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently while professionally representing the client agency in the field. Proficient in Microsoft Office and electronic construction management/document control systems. Valid California Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record. Preferred Certifications APWA Certified Public Infrastructure Inspector (CPII) ICC Construction Inspector ICC Utility and Public Works Inspector ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician - Grade I Caltrans Construction Inspection Certification Traffic Control / Work Zone Safety Certification OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety Training Confined Space Awareness Training SWPPP Practitioner or QSP Certification (desirable)
