Construction Inspector

Job Description

Inspects construction activities and tests materials on County managed road, bridge and drainage projects and the work of private contractors and utilities associated with excavation permits and other work on public rights-of-way.
  • THIS POSTING MAY BE USED TO FILL MULTIPLE OPENINGS
  • Inspects construction of improvements including roads, bridges and culverts and drainage facilities within public rights-of-way and easements.
Approves and issues excavation permits for work by private contractors and utilities within the public right-of-way, collection fees associated with the permits. Performs material testing for compliance and acceptance of soils, gravel, asphalt and concrete on various construction projects, both those performed by County crews and those performed by private contractors. Verifies construction quantities and contractor pay requests. Represents the Public Works Department and Pueblo County at meetings. Annually inspects and rates the condition of large diameter culverts within public rights-of-way. Establishes and maintains a detailed data base of said culverts including size, location and condition. Financial responsibility and accountability for cash handling, bookkeeping and billing contractors for permit fees. Performs other duties as appropriate or necessary for performance of the job.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
Minimum of two years experience in Civil Engineering required.
PREFERRED EDUCATION
Associate's Degree from an accredited two-year college or university in Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology preferred.
Special Requirements:
Must successfully pass background check. Valid driver's license at the time of application and a valid Colorado driver's license at time of hire required.
