Crane Operator - Quarry Operations Job Summary The Crane Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of cranes and lifting equipment within the quarry environment. This role supports quarry production by lifting, moving, and positioning large stone blocks, materials, and equipment while maintaining strict adherence to safety regulations and operational procedures. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Operate cranes and related lifting equipment to safely lift, move, and place granite blocks, materials, and quarry equipment
Work closely with ledgemen, quarry supervisors, and ground personnel to coordinate lifts and ensure proper placement of loads
Inspect cranes, rigging, and lifting devices before and after use to ensure safe operating condition
Properly secure loads using slings, chains, hooks, and other rigging equipment
Follow hand signals and radio communications during lifting operations
Maintain awareness of load weight limits, ground conditions, and environmental hazards
Perform routine maintenance and report mechanical issues or safety concerns promptly
Keep accurate records of equipment inspections and operational activities
Comply with all company policies, and MSHA regulations
Assist with general quarry operations as needed Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent preferred
Valid crane operator certification and/or license, as required
Previous experience operating cranes in a quarry, construction, or industrial setting preferred
Strong knowledge of rigging techniques and load safety
Ability to read and understand load charts and operating manuals
Familiarity with MSHA safety regulations Skills and Competencies
Strong attention to detail and safety awareness
Effective communication and teamwork skills
Mechanical aptitude
Ability to remain focused and calm in high-risk environments
Dependability and sound judgment Physical Requirements
Ability to sit for extended periods and operate controls precisely
Ability to climb on and off equipment
Ability to lift and carry up to [insert weight] pounds occasionally
Exposure to outdoor weather conditions, dust, noise, and heavy equipment Work Environment
Active quarry environment with uneven terrain
Exposure to heavy machinery, moving equipment, and large stone blocks
