Job Summary:

(Directional Drilling Operator) We are seeking an experienced Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) Rig Operator to join our team. The successful candidate will have hands-on experience operating Ditch Witch directional drilling rigs and locating equipment for the installation of underground conduits, fiber optic lines, and steel casing. The HDD Rig Operator will be responsible for safely and efficiently operating drilling equipment, coordinating with the locating crew and laborers, preparing job sites, and ensuring work is completed according to project plans, specifications, and safety requirements.

Responsibilities and Duties:

Operate Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) rigs, including Ditch Witch equipment, for the installation of underground conduits, fiber optics, and steel casing. Operate locating equipment and perform drilling and locating activities as required. Operate a mini excavator and other construction equipment for site preparation, potholing, setup, and general construction activities. Set up, maintain, and clean up job sites, including assisting with traffic control and maintaining a safe work area. Read and follow construction drawings, maps, bore profiles, plans, and project layouts. Monitor drilling operations and inspect work in progress to ensure proper installation, alignment, depth, and workmanship. Perform daily inspections of drilling rigs, locating equipment, vehicles, tools, and other equipment. Perform routine equipment maintenance, including greasing, oiling, cleaning, and minor repairs. Identify and report equipment issues, site conditions, utility conflicts, or other problems to the supervisor. Follow all company, project, and OSHA safety requirements and procedures. Maintain accurate daily records and communicate job progress and site conditions to supervisors. Perform other duties related to HDD and underground utility construction as assigned.

Required Experience, Skills & Qualification:

2-3+ years of hands-on Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) experience required. Experience operating Ditch Witch directional drilling rigs strongly preferred. Experience operating HDD locating equipment required. Previous experience with underground conduit, fiber optic, utility, or steel casing installation preferred. Strong understanding of HDD drilling procedures, industry standards, and safe work practices. Ability to effectively communicate with crew members, supervisors, and other project personnel. Ability to work outdoors in varying temperatures, climates, and weather conditions. Willingness to work varying shifts and travel or stay out of town as project requirements dictate. Ability to lift and carry up to 70 lbs. Valid Class A CDL with a clean driving record preferred/required based on position requirements. Must successfully pass a background check and pre-employment drug screening. Reliable attendance, strong work ethic, and commitment to job-site safety.

$28.00 - $34.00 per hour
