Driller is responsible for the safe, efficient, and code-compliant construction, repair, and decommissioning of water wells for residential, agricultural, and commercial customers across our Idaho and Washington service areas. You will operate drilling rigs (primarily air rotary) and support equipment on-site, work directly with customers and crew members, and ensure every well meets state regulatory standards. This role is built for someone who takes pride in hands-on, technical work, stays composed under changing site conditions, and holds safety and code compliance as a non-negotiable part of every job.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Well Construction & Field Operations Operate drilling rigs and associated support equipment (mud pumps, air compressors, hoists) to construct, deepen, or decommission water wells while managing operations and directing the drillers assistant in everyday situations. Interpret site geology, well logs, and boring plans to select appropriate drilling methods, casing, and screen specifications Install casing, screens, well seals, and grout in accordance with state well construction standards Conduct well development, test pumping, and yield estimation following installation Maintain drilling rigs, vehicles, and tools in safe operating condition, and report defects or needed repairs promptly Compliance, Safety, & Documentation Complete and file required state paperwork, including Notices of Intent to drill (Washington) and well construction/completion reports (Idaho and Washington), within required timeframes Maintain accurate daily drill logs, material usage records, and lithology logs for each job Ensure all work is performed under the responsible charge of a licensed driller as required by state law, and support trainees or apprentices working toward licensure Stay current on changes to Idaho Department of Water Resources (IDWR) and Washington Department of Ecology well construction rules Follow all OSHA, state, and company safety protocols for drilling operations, including rig floor safety, lockout/tagout on rotating equipment, confined space awareness, hearing conservation, and PPE requirements Customer & Team Coordination Communicate professionally with property owners and customers regarding the state of drilling and site conditions Train and mentor helpers, trainees, and apprentice drillers on rig operation and safe work practices
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Idaho driller's license issued by the Idaho Department of Water Resources, or Washington well operator license issued by the Department of Ecology Valid commercial driver's license (Class A CDL) Working knowledge of well construction methods, geologic formations, and casing/grouting standards Ability to safely operate drilling rigs and heavy equipment, including routine maintenance and troubleshooting Ability to lift and handle drilling materials (casing, tools, sacked materials) up to 40-50lbs regularly, and work in varied weather and terrain conditions Strong verbal communication skills for customer interaction and crew coordination Preferred Experience with pump installation, water treatment systems, or PFAS/well remediation work
