This is exciting because you're building the backbone for one of the fastest-growing AI hotspots in the country. Nevada's data center boom needs fiber to run on, and demand for it isn't slowing down anytime soon, which means the work you're stepping into keeps growing rather than winding down. You'll be running the HDD rig, reading the ground, and adjusting on the fly when conditions don't match the plan, on a multi-year build with two active sites and dozens of positions still to fill. It's direct hire, not a short fill-in gig, so the work is steady, the pay reflects real skill, and the crew is one you'll actually grow with instead of cycling through every few months. If you already know your way around a Vermeer or a Ditch Witch and you'd rather be the one making the call on site than waiting on someone else to make it for you, this is your seat.

Requirements:

2+ years of hands-on experience operating horizontal directional drilling (HDD) equipment specifically within telecom or fiber-optic construction, including pilot bore, reaming, and pullback stages on live production jobs Solid working knowledge of bore planning, directional drilling techniques, and underground utility safety practices, including adjusting approach for varying soil types, rock, and unmarked obstructions Demonstrated ability to read and interpret construction drawings, bore profiles, and project specifications, and translate them into an accurate bore path in the field Valid driver's license, with the ability to travel between multiple active job sites and safely operate company vehicles to transport tooling and equipment as needed Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills, with a track record of working effectively as part of a coordinated crew and taking ownership of decisions made on site Nice to have: • CDL (Commercial Driver's License), which supports moving heavier rigs and equipment between sites, depending on final role responsibilities OSHA 10/30 or other formal safety certification, demonstrating documented safety training beyond on-the-job experience

Responsibilities :

Operate Horizontal Directional Driller (HDD) rigs (e.g., Vermeer, Ditch Witch) to complete pilot bores, reaming, and pullback operations for underground conduit and fiber installations Execute bore paths in accordance with approved bore plans, profiles, and project specifications, reading and translating drawings accurately into the actual line and grade drilled in the field Adjust drilling technique in real time based on soil conditions, underground obstructions, and site constraints, drawing on a solid grounding in bore planning and drilling fundamentals to keep each bore on track Coordinate continuously with the Horizontal Directional Driller Locator to maintain proper depth, alignment, and clearance throughout each bore, communicating clearly and often to avoid utility strikes or missed line Oversee drilling fluid (mud) usage and mixture to maintain bore integrity, adjusting ratios and flow as ground conditions change throughout the bore Perform daily inspections, routine maintenance, and minor repairs on drilling equipment, and safely transport rigs, tooling, and equipment between active job sites as assigned Ensure all drilling operations comply with company safety policies and OSHA regulations, applying underground safety practices and any formal safety certification held to every stage of the bore Lead job briefings related to drilling operations and site hazards, setting expectations for the crew and reinforcing the safety and communication standards the role is built on Stop work immediately and escalate when unsafe conditions are identified on site, exercising the judgment and leadership expected of the most experienced operator on the crew Complete drilling logs, bore records, and daily production reports; communicate progress, issues, and equipment needs to supervision, and support redlines and field documentation as required, keeping the crew and office aligned on status
