Northwood / Toledo, Ohio Full-Time | Field Position Underground Contractors, Inc. (UCI) is hiring an experienced HDD / Directional Drill Foreman to lead an underground telecommunications construction crew in the Northwood/Toledo, Ohio market. We are specifically looking for someone who knows how to bore. This position is intended for an experienced underground construction professional who has hands-on horizontal directional drilling experience and the ability to lead a crew in the field . If you have spent several years operating or leading a directional drill crew and are ready to take ownership of the crew, equipment, safety, production, and day-to-day jobsite decisions, we want to talk with you. What You'll Do Lead an underground directional drilling / bore crew. Perform and oversee horizontal directional drilling (HDD) and boring operations . Direct drill operators, locators, laborers, and other crew members. Review prints, proposed bore paths, utility markings, and jobsite conditions before drilling begins. Verify utility locates and coordinate potholing/daylighting of existing facilities. Install underground telecommunications conduit and fiber infrastructure. Monitor bore depth, alignment, clearance, and installation progress. Make field decisions when utility conflicts, soil conditions, equipment issues, or other jobsite conditions change. Coordinate excavation, bore pits, conduit installation, pedestals, vaults, manholes, and restoration. Coordinate labor, materials, and equipment. Maintain crew productivity and keep projects on schedule. Complete daily production, safety, and job documentation. Communicate with supervisors, inspectors, customers, and project management. Maintain safe excavation practices and enforce UCI safety requirements. Take ownership of crew performance, jobsite safety, quality, equipment, and production. What We're Looking ForRequired Experience Minimum of 3 years of hands-on directional boring / HDD experience. Experience operating or directly leading directional drilling operations. Experience in underground utility, telecommunications, fiber optic, or similar construction. Previous experience leading a construction crew or working as a Foreman, Lead, or Crew Leader. Strong understanding of underground utilities, utility locates, and damage prevention. Ability to read construction prints and understand proposed underground routes. Experience working with directional drilling equipment such as Vermeer, Ditch Witch, or comparable equipment . Ability to independently troubleshoot field conditions and make safe, informed decisions. Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills. Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Ability to work overtime and occasional overnight travel as project schedules require. Highly Preferred CDL Class A with Air Brake endorsement. Experience with HDD locating systems such as DigiTrak, Subsite, or similar systems. Underground telecommunications / fiber construction experience. Experience placing manholes. Experience constructing conduit systems more than four feet deep. Experience with excavation, trenching, potholing/daylighting, vaults, pedestals, restoration, and traffic control.
