Shipyard Military Vessels National City, CA Job Details Full-time $25 - $34 an hour 16 hours ago Qualifications Military High school diploma or GED Power tools Hand tools Diesel engine repair Full Job Description Job Overview Marine Electrician Repairs, installs, replaces, and tests electrical circuits, cables, equipment, and connectors. Uses hand tools and testing equipment. Inspects and tests electrical equipment, lighting, signal, communication, and power circuits. Isolates defects in wiring, switches, motors, and other electrical equipment using general and specialized testing equipment. Replaces faulty switches, sockets, and other elements of electrical systems. Dismantles electrical machinery and replaces defective electrical or mechanical parts such as gears, brushes, and armatures. Mounts motors, transformers, and lighting fixtures into position and completes circuits according to diagram specifications. Works from drawings, blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams. Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures. Participates in special projects as required. Must be able to obtain all necessary badges (DBIDS and shipyard). Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions and in confined spaces. Performs other duties as assigned Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes up to 75 lbs.

Education:

Requires a High School Diploma or GED. Associate's Degree preferred or the equivalent combination of education, technical training or work experience.

Qualifications:

1-3 years of related electrical experience. Must obtain a DBIDS Badge prior to starting work Must be able to obtain access to various shipyards Duties Install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain marine electrical systems including wiring, lighting, power distribution, and control systems on vessels. Interpret technical schematics, wiring diagrams, and engineering drawings to accurately diagnose electrical issues. Conduct electrical diagnostics using tools such as ohmmeters, multimeters, and other precision measuring instruments. Perform maintenance on marine propulsion systems, electrical components, and mechanical systems integral to vessel operation. Utilize hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, soldering irons, calipers, and sheet metal fabrication techniques for repairs and installations. Ensure compliance with safety protocols by properly using personal protective equipment (PPE) during all maintenance activities. Collaborate with team members on rigging operations and assembly tasks related to electrical system upgrades or repairs. Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, inspections, and repairs in accordance with operational standards. Support water transportation equipment maintenance including diesel engines, marine mechanics, and mechanical systems repair. Assist in troubleshooting engineering issues related to marine electrical systems and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives. Qualifications Proven experience as a service technician or electrician within a marine or heavy industry setting. Strong understanding of schematics, technical drawings, and engineering troubleshooting methods. Military background or experience is highly desirable due to familiarity with rigorous safety standards and technical procedures. Demonstrated electrical experience with ship electrical systems maintenance and marine propulsion systems troubleshooting. Mechanical knowledge including marine engine repair, mechanical systems repair, and vehicle maintenance. Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, soldering techniques, calipers, and precision measuring instruments. Experience with maintenance, repair & operations (MRO), sheet metal fabrication, heavy lifting techniques, and assembly processes. Knowledge of water transportation equipment maintenance including diesel mechanics is a plus. Ability to interpret technical drawings accurately and perform fabrication tasks as needed. Excellent customer service skills combined with the ability to work independently or as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
