This is journeyman-level electrical and mechanical work on energized utility substations from 13 kV to 230 kV and above, on multi-person field crews, to OSHA, NESC and
NERC CIP
standards. What you'll do Inspect, test, repair and overhaul power transformers, oil/SF6/vacuum circuit breakers, voltage regulators, tap changers, switchgear, disconnect switches, buswork and surge arresters Oil sampling and dielectric fluid filtering Execute complex high- and low-voltage switching under System Dispatchers — lockout/tagout, grounding and safety tagging, daily tailgates, job hazard analyses and pre-job briefings Diagnostic testing: Doble power factor, transformer turns ratio (TTR), contact resistance (micro-ohm), insulation resistance (Megger) and sweep frequency response analysis (SFRA) Station auxiliary and DC backup — battery banks, chargers, DC distribution panels, standby generators, AC/DC control circuits Respond to unplanned outages and storm restoration on an on-call rotation; operate bucket trucks, crane trucks and oil processing trailers in all weather What you'll need — every item is a hard requirement unless marked preferred An accredited 4-year Substation Electrician Apprenticeship, OR 4+ years of journey-level high-voltage substation maintenance with an electric utility or industrial facility Documented high-voltage or arc-flash safety training — from the military, a utility, an employer safety program, NFPA 70E or
OSHA 1910.269 OSHA
10 or OSHA 30 High school diploma or GED Able to read single-line and three-line diagrams and schematics; working knowledge of OSHA 1910.269 and NESC Valid state driver's license with a clean record Class A CDL with tanker endorsement, or able to obtain one within 6 months (preferred) Available to travel, and available for emergency response and on-call work Must qualify for
NERC CIP
clearance within 6 months Able to pass a pre-employment technical assessment, and a seven-year background check for site clearance after an offer Physically able to work outdoors in all weather — lifting up to 50 lbs, climbing, working at height in bucket trucks and on top of transformers, in restricted clearances, in arc-flash PPE Pay $48-$55 per hour based on experience Full-time, on-site out of Tampa / Plant City, FL On-call rotation for emergency failures, forced outages and storm restoration InfraSquad is recruiting for this role on behalf of a utility contractor.
