Industrial Electrician Job Description This role focuses on performing electrical repairs, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting on heavy industrial production machinery. You will work with systems up to 480 volts, support automated production lines, and provide on-site electrical expertise while helping guide the electrical maintenance workforce. Responsibilities Perform electrical repairs and troubleshooting on heavy industrial production machinery to minimize downtime and maintain safe, reliable operation. Manage and perform preventive maintenance (PMs) on machinery, ensuring equipment runs efficiently and issues are identified before failures occur. Lead and support the electrical maintenance workforce by providing on-site technical expertise and guidance during repairs and projects. Work safely with electrical systems up to 480 volts, including power distribution, control panels, and associated equipment. Troubleshoot and repair Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) used in automated production lines. Work with PLCs, variable frequency drives (VFDs), and instrumentation systems that support modern automated manufacturing processes. Install, wire, and troubleshoot motors and control panels on production equipment, ensuring proper operation and adherence to electrical schematics. Perform wiring, conduit installation, and panel terminations according to blueprints, schematics, and electrical codes. Diagnose and resolve issues using electrical schematics, blueprints, and low-voltage wiring diagrams. Support installations and alignments for new and existing machinery, including electrical hookup and functional testing. Collaborate with maintenance mechanics and other team members across all shifts to coordinate repairs and maintenance activities. Document work performed, communicate findings, and recommend improvements to enhance equipment reliability and safety. Essential Skills 7-10 years of electrical experience in a heavy industrial production environment. Hands-on experience as an industrial electrician working with manufacturing equipment and controls. Proficiency working with electrical systems up to 480 volts in an industrial setting. Demonstrated experience wiring motors and control panels on production equipment. Strong PLC troubleshooting and repair skills for automated production lines. Experience working with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), variable frequency drives (VFDs), and instrumentation systems. Ability to install, repair, and troubleshoot control panels, wiring, and conduits. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, electrical schematics, and wiring diagrams. Experience with low-voltage electrical wiring and control circuits. Strong troubleshooting skills for industrial controls, automation systems, and electrical components. Comfort working in a unionized industrial environment with rotating and overtime schedules. Additional Skills & Qualifications Certifications related to industrial electricity or automation are a plus but not required. Experience with installations and alignments for new and existing machinery. Experience working with industrial control panels and automation equipment in a manufacturing environment. Familiarity with control panel layout, wiring practices, and commissioning. Ability to collaborate effectively with maintenance mechanics and production staff. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $34.00 - $40.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
