Industrial Coatings Estimator - Technical Specialist About the Position We are seeking an experienced Industrial Coatings Estimator - Technical Specialist to provide technical expertise to Sales, Engineering, and Operations teams supporting coating and maintenance projects in heavy industrial environments. This role will focus on reviewing coating specifications, developing scopes of work, estimating projects, supporting proposals, evaluating field conditions, and providing technical guidance related to industrial coatings, corrosion protection, surface preparation, inspection, and application requirements. The ideal candidate will have extensive industrial coatings experience, strong estimating and proposal-writing capabilities, and a solid understanding of industry standards and coating technologies.
Key Responsibilities:
Review coating specifications, scopes of work, drawings, customer requirements, and project documents. Develop accurate scopes of work, estimates, proposals, and technical recommendations for industrial coating projects. Support Sales and Operations with technical reviews, bid preparation, site evaluations, and customer requirements. Evaluate surface preparation requirements, coating systems, application methods, environmental controls, and inspection criteria. Apply applicable AMPP/NACE, SSPC, and customer-specific standards to coating specifications and project requirements. Participate in site walks, pre-bid meetings, field assessments, customer discussions, and project handoffs. Define inspection requirements, quality documentation, acceptance criteria, DFT requirements, environmental controls, and repair procedures. Review field conditions, photographs, inspection reports, drawings, and bid documents to develop practical and executable scopes. Collaborate with Sales, Engineering, Operations, Project Management, Safety, and field personnel to ensure accurate estimating and effective project execution. Provide technical support throughout the estimating, proposal, and project handoff process.
Required Qualifications:
5+ years of extensive industrial coatings experience. Strong experience with industrial coating systems, corrosion protection, surface preparation, and application methods. Experience with abrasive blasting, water jetting, abrasive media, containment, environmental controls, coating application, and coating repair procedures. Strong understanding of coating failures, corrosion mechanisms, inspection requirements, and quality control practices. Experience reviewing coating specifications for industrial assets such as tanks, ducts, stacks, structural steel, scrubbers, precipitators, baghouses, ash handling systems, concrete surfaces, and secondary containment. Knowledge of coating systems including epoxies, urethanes, zinc-rich primers, high-temperature coatings, chemical-resistant systems, immersion coatings, and specialty protective coatings. Ability to interpret drawings, specifications, inspection reports, photographs, bid documents, and customer standards. Strong estimating, technical writing, proposal development, and scope-development skills. Strong communication and collaboration skills with Sales, Operations, Engineering, customers, and field personnel.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience supporting coating projects within power generation, utilities, industrial manufacturing, steel, cement, pulp and paper, refinery, chemical, or similar heavy industrial environments. Experience with natural gas or coal-fired power plants, industrial boilers, IPPs, co-ops, or other power-generation facilities.
AMPP/NACE CIP, SSPC
PCI, Protective Coating Specialist , or related coatings, corrosion, inspection, or materials certifications. Experience providing customer-facing technical support and participating in pre-bid meetings and site evaluations.
