Cavossa Excavating is looking for an experienced Excavation Project Manager / Estimator who can take a job from the first site visit and estimate all the way through scheduling, execution, billing, and completion. This is not a desk-only project management position. We need someone who understands how excavation work actually gets done and can confidently estimate it, price it, plan it, communicate it to the customer, and lead the crews completing the work. Our projects include : Title V septic systems Site work & site development Small civil projects Excavation & earthwork Demolition Grading Shoring Drainage & utility work You'll oversee two excavation crews and play a major role in how we price, schedule, and execute our work. What You'll Own Estimating & Winning Work You'll be responsible for turning opportunities into executable projects. Visit potential job sites and evaluate scope. Review plans, specifications, engineering drawings, and site conditions. Complete quantity takeoffs and bid estimates. Estimate labor, equipment, materials, trucking, subcontractors, disposal, and other job costs. Build customer-ready proposals. Price additional work and prepare change orders. Help ensure we're bidding work competitively without sacrificing margin. You should be comfortable looking at an excavation project and determining what it will take to get the job done and what it should cost. Running the Work Once a job is awarded, you'll own the plan. Build project schedules and workflows. Schedule and coordinate two excavation teams. Assign the right employees and equipment to each project. Coordinate materials, trucking, subcontractors, vendors, and equipment. Work across departments to ensure resources are available. Manage multiple active and upcoming jobs at the same time. Adjust quickly when weather, job conditions, customer needs, or priorities change. Managing Customers You'll be a key point of contact from the initial estimate through project completion. That means communication and responsiveness matter. You'll work directly with homeowners, contractors, engineers, inspectors, vendors, subcontractors, and other customers and partners. You'll be expected to communicate clearly, respond to questions within a reasonable timeframe, set expectations, discuss project changes, and make sure customers know what's happening with their job. Managing the Numbers You'll also own the administrative and financial side of your projects. Track project budgets and actual costs. Monitor labor, materials, equipment, subcontractor, and other project expenses. Prepare invoices. Create and track change orders. Maintain accurate project documentation. Compare actual costs against estimates. Identify potential budget issues before they become bigger problems. Maintain organized records from estimate through final invoice. Leading the Team We're looking for a manager who can lead different personalities, set expectations, and hold people accountable.

You'll:

Direct and support two excavation crews. Assign work based on project needs and employee strengths. Coach employees and address performance issues. Recognize strong performance and development opportunities. Participate in and make decisions regarding hiring, discipline, and termination. Help develop employees and identify training opportunities. Create a culture of accountability, teamwork, safety, and quality. Owning Safety & Quality You'll regularly be in the field checking on projects—not micromanaging crews, but making sure the work is being done safely, accurately, and to our standards. You'll evaluate: Jobsite safety Excavation and trench conditions Quality of work Accuracy against plans/specifications Crew performance Equipment and resource needs Project progress You'll be expected to enforce safety requirements and address unsafe conditions immediately. You're Probably a Strong Fit If You... Have 5+ years of excavation, site work, septic, civil, or earthwork experience. Have hands-on experience estimating and bidding excavation projects. Can complete a takeoff and build a job estimate. Have experience with Title V septic work. Understand site work, demolition, grading, drainage, utilities, shoring, and earthwork. Can read construction drawings, site plans, specifications, and engineering plans. Understand heavy equipment, trucking, labor requirements, materials, and construction sequencing. Have managed field crews or construction employees. Can manage several jobs without losing track of details. Are comfortable dealing directly with customers. Can have difficult conversations when necessary. Are organized and strong with documentation and follow-through. Understand job costing, budgets, invoices, and change orders. Are comfortable with Excel and construction/project management technology. Can move between the office, customer meetings, and jobsites as needed. What This Job Is NOT This is not a position where someone else estimates the work, someone else handles the customer, and someone else manages the crews.
