Forbes Capretto Homes is seeking an experienced Construction Cost Estimator to join our team. The ideal candidate has a strong background in residential construction estimating, can read and interpret construction documents, and understands the materials, methods, and sequencing involved in building a home. We recognize that excellent estimators often begin with a strong foundation in construction. While prior estimating experience is highly preferred, we are also open to training an exceptional candidate who has extensive knowledge of residential construction, strong analytical abilities, excellent attention to detail, and the aptitude to learn estimating systems and processes. The Construction Cost Estimator will prepare detailed material and labor takeoffs, maintain accurate cost information, issue purchase and work orders, and collaborate with our construction team, architects, trade partners, and vendors. This role requires accuracy, curiosity, sound judgment, and a commitment to identifying cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality. Key Responsibilities Prepare accurate, detailed, and unitized quantity takeoffs for residential construction projects. Review architectural plans, specifications, selections, and scopes of work. Prepare and issue accurate purchase orders and work orders within established time frames. Obtain and evaluate pricing from trade partners, suppliers, and vendors. Perform cost comparisons and cost analyses as requested. Maintain current pricing and cost information within company systems. Monitor plan revisions and selection changes, determine their cost impact, and prepare clear descriptions of change orders. Work closely with construction, design, architecture, engineering, and accounting personnel. Communicate with trade partners and vendors to clarify scopes of work and resolve pricing questions. Visit homes under construction to verify that estimates and scopes reflect actual field conditions. Identify cost-saving construction methods, materials, and processes while maintaining company quality standards. Assist with product development and coordination with architects and engineering consultants. Help maximize applicable rebate and cooperative purchasing programs. Participate in ongoing estimating, software, and industry training. Perform other related duties assigned by company leadership. Qualifications 3+ years of residential construction estimating experience is preferred. A degree in construction management, business, engineering, or a related field is helpful but not required. Strong knowledge of residential construction methods, materials, terminology, and building sequence is essential. Experience preparing detailed material and labor takeoffs is preferred. Ability to read and interpret architectural plans, specifications, and other construction documents. Experience with PlanSwift, On-Screen Takeoff, or similar estimating software is preferred. Familiarity with MarkSystems, AutoCAD, Revit, or other construction management software is a plus. Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving abilities. Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to organize priorities, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines.
