Residential New Construction - Electrical Position Summary J&S Electrical Services is seeking an experienced Electrical Estimator to join our growing Electrical Department. This position will work closely with our Master Electrician and operations team to prepare accurate and competitive electrical bids for residential home builders. The ideal candidate will have previous electrical estimating or closely related experience, a strong understanding of residential electrical systems, and the ability to confidently read and interpret architectural plans, electrical drawings, specifications, and builder scopes of work. This position will play an important role in helping J&S Electrical continue expanding its residential new-construction operations by ensuring bids are accurate, competitive, and financially sound. Key Responsibilities Prepare detailed electrical estimates and bids for residential new-construction projects . Review and interpret architectural plans, electrical drawings, specifications, and builder scopes of work. Perform electrical material and labor takeoffs from construction plans. Determine estimated labor hours, material quantities, equipment, and other project costs. Work directly with the Master Electrician to review electrical requirements, code considerations, and project-specific needs. Prepare pricing for single-family homes, communities, plan types, elevations, options, and upgrades. Review builder bid packages and identify items that may be missing, unclear, or outside the standard scope of work. Obtain and maintain current material pricing when preparing estimates. Compare estimated costs against proposed contract pricing to help maintain appropriate project margins. Prepare and submit professional bid packages to home builders within required deadlines. Maintain organized records of estimates, plans, pricing, revisions, and awarded projects. Review plan revisions and determine whether changes affect material, labor, or contract pricing. Assist management with evaluating potential new builders, communities, and projects. Coordinate with field operations and management after projects are awarded to help ensure estimated scopes align with actual construction requirements. Required Qualifications Previous electrical estimating or directly related electrical construction experience is required. Strong knowledge of residential electrical systems and installation practices. Ability to read, understand, and interpret architectural and construction plans . Experience performing material and labor takeoffs. Understanding of electrical materials, fixtures, panels, circuits, devices, and other components used in residential construction. Strong mathematical and analytical skills. Excellent attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously. Strong computer skills and ability to work with estimating software, spreadsheets, PDFs, and construction documents. Ability to communicate professionally with builders, vendors, electricians, supervisors, and management. Must be organized and capable of working independently while collaborating with the Electrical Department. Preferred Qualifications Previous experience estimating production residential/home-builder electrical projects . Experience working with national or regional home builders. Familiarity with residential construction phases and builder bidding processes. Knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and applicable residential electrical requirements. Experience with digital takeoff or construction estimating software. Experience estimating multiple floor plans, elevations, options, and community-specific pricing.
