We are seeking an experienced Construction Estimator to support commercial mechanical construction projects from initial opportunity through bid submission and project turnover. This position is responsible for preparing accurate, competitive, and complete estimates by reviewing drawings and specifications, performing quantity takeoffs, developing labor and material costs, soliciting vendor and subcontractor pricing, and identifying potential scope gaps and project risks. The ideal candidate will have experience estimating labor and material costs, soliciting pricing from vendors and subcontractors for commercial plumbing, HVAC, piping, and mechanical systems, and will be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with multiple active bids. This position works closely with leadership, project management, vendors, subcontractors, and operations to ensure each estimate is complete, competitive, and positioned for successful project execution. Primary Responsibilities Review construction drawings, specifications, addenda, bid documents, and contract requirements to develop complete project estimates. Perform detailed quantity takeoffs for plumbing, HVAC, piping, equipment, specialties, and related mechanical scopes. Develop labor, material, equipment, subcontractor, and general-condition costs for commercial mechanical projects. Prepare detailed bid summaries, cost breakdowns, exclusions, clarifications, allowances, and qualifications. Solicit and evaluate pricing from vendors, suppliers, and subcontractors. Level subcontractor and vendor proposals to confirm scope coverage and identify exclusions or inconsistencies. Identify potential scope gaps, design conflicts, schedule concerns, and cost risks during the estimating process. Coordinate with project managers and operations personnel to review constructability, labor requirements, project sequencing, and anticipated field conditions. Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and project walkthroughs when required. Prepare and maintain bid schedules to ensure estimates are completed accurately and submitted on time. Assist with value engineering and alternate pricing when requested. Review project requirements including bonding, insurance, prevailing wage, federal requirements, logistics, phasing, and schedule constraints. Participate in internal bid reviews and go/no-go discussions. Prepare complete turnover documentation for awarded projects so estimating assumptions, pricing, exclusions, and vendor commitments are clearly communicated to the project management team. Maintain accurate estimating records, historical pricing information, vendor quotations, and project cost data. Assist with change order pricing and additional work estimates when requested. Track bid results and participate in post-bid reviews to improve estimating accuracy and competitiveness. Qualifications Minimum three (3) to five (5) years of commercial construction estimating experience preferred. Mechanical contracting, plumbing, HVAC, piping, or related construction experience strongly preferred. Strong understanding of commercial construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents. Ability to perform accurate material and labor takeoffs. Working knowledge of commercial plumbing and HVAC systems. Understanding of construction labor productivity, material pricing, equipment costs, subcontractor scopes, and project logistics. Ability to manage multiple estimates and deadlines simultaneously. Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to communicate professionally with general contractors, owners, vendors, subcontractors, and internal project teams. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and related business applications. Experience with electronic takeoff and estimating software. Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record. Experience with Bluebeam, FastPIPE, FastDUCT, Trimble, QuoteSoft, or similar estimating platforms. Familiarity with Procore or comparable construction management systems. Teamwork — Works collaboratively with estimating, project management, field operations, vendors, and leadership. Performance Expectations The Construction Estimator will be expected to: Prepare accurate, complete, and competitive estimates. Meet established bid deadlines. Maintain organized and complete estimating documentation. Identify scope gaps and potential project risks before bid submission. Obtain adequate vendor and subcontractor coverage. Clearly document assumptions, qualifications, allowances, and exclusions. Provide accurate project turnover information following award. Maintain current knowledge of material pricing, labor conditions, and market trends. Support profitable project acquisition rather than simply increasing total bid volume. Continuously improve estimating accuracy through post-project and bid-result reviews. Working Conditions Full-time position. Minimum 40-hour work week.

Primary office location:

San Antonio, Texas. Non-remote position. Occasional travel to project sites, pre-bid meetings, and client meetings may be required. Extended hours may occasionally be required to meet bid deadlines.

Pay:

$75,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
